Torchlight - Windows

Model: 8048856
SKU: 9716779
UPC: 705381159803
SynopsisFor years, people have been drawn to the small mining settlement of Torchlight in search of the rare and mysterious ore that can be found there. This powerful ore, known as Ember, has the ability both to enchant and to corrupt, yet its lure is such that many have laid down their lives in pursuit of it. Now the town's shadowed past is beginning to come to light, as miners have discovered a treacherous labyrinth of caverns, monsters and buried civilizations ruined by Ember's dark influence. As the cycle of corruption begins again, ensnaring Torchlight in Ember's sinister grip, only you will have the power to save the town. Torchlight offers a gripping hack-and-slash adventure in which you'll take on the role of one of three character classes. Battle your way past barriers of rock and fire, through lost cities and across ancient tombs as you struggle to cleanse the mines of Ember's dark powers. Explore randomly generated dungeon levels that present a unique challenge each time you play. See if you have what it takes to overcome the monsters that lie in wait, including the tantalizing lure of Ember itself.

What's great about it: Installs easily, great price, and very easy to play
I found Torchlight to be a well programmed game. It has many challenging levels and monsters to kill. It is easy to play and would allow my children to play it. It is not very graphically gross so there is not any vulger language. The outfit they start in is a bit revealling but that in proves as the characters collect armor and weapons. One of my characters is a level 9 and is completely covered.
I really like this game. Its great.

What's great about it: Quality action RPG title for $20
What's not so great: Somewhat repetitive
This game feels surprisingly like a mainstream title, but only for $20. Very similar to Fate, but with much better graphics and all around improvements/additions to make it even more fun. Add in the fact that there's no DRM and this is an awesome deal. The repetitiveness can lessen the thrill, but you will log many hours of play before it puts you out. If you're bored waiting in between highly anticipated launches, then I highly recommend this game to tide you over. You will most certainly get your money's worth.

What's great about it: Decent gameplay
What's not so great: Gets kind of boring quickly
This is like a Fisher Price copy of Diablo 2. It's made by some of the people who made Diablo 2, so that's why. It's a decent distraction but it gets a little boring.

What's great about it: Very low price, Good graphics, Easy interface, Fun to play!
What's not so great: No multiplayer, Low long-term replayability.
Torchlight is an exciting ARPG produced by some of the original developers of the Diablo series by Blizzard Entertainment. A lot of the in-game music is themed right out of the original Diablo. Some of the player skills mimic that of the upcoming Diablo III title. It is essentially a watered down version of D3 with more cartoonish graphics, like WoW.
Single player gameplay will last about 10-20 hours until you defeat the final boss. There are plenty of item drops, and the ability to enchant lets you add stats to your gear. The mix of monsters works well and some of the maps are very lush. It's a fun game that is easy to pick up for both veterans and new players of the genre. I wish the bosses/unique monsters were a bit larger and over-the-top powerful. Instead, it simply takes a few extra hits to kill them.
For the price, you can't beat the value in terms of what you get out of the gameplay. Once you beat the final boss, an endless dungeon opens up so you can continue to level and find gear. This soon becomes boring however. Overall, Torchlight is a very fun game with a decent storyline. Long-term, the replayability is killed by excluding multiplayer options.

What's great about it: Easy to pick up and play for a few minutes or a few hours.
What's not so great: the negatives are incredibly minor; it might be too addicting :)
95/100
It's a great introduction to the world of Action RPGs (ARPGs) for newbies, but has the depth and gameplay that is expected from vets of the genre.
It looks beautiful and the min specs are so low it will run on nearly ANY computer.
