What's great about it: Perfect size and attractive
This is my first over-the-range microwave. I should have done it before. This microwave has a feature to set the time for frequently microwaved items -- I really like that. While I don't cook with a microwave, I use it daily to heat things up. It works very well. Mostly I love it's appearance...very attractive.

What's great about it: Very happy with original and current model reflects the same features
What's not so great: Wish they would color start on keyboard in green and cancel in red. Light gray on white background is brutal!
Overall, I was very pleased with my old Whirlpool microwave and wanted to replace it with the current model because of that. I was not disappointed and although it has changed a bit, it would of been easier if it would of fit on the same brackets so I could of set it up easier. However, it was no big deal to install if you have a handy husband or friend!

What's not so great: everything
But the product and the installation/ repair service they use.
1st appt, they didn't show up until the next day. That's window #1 and # 2 having to be home for a 5 hr window. Less than a month after being installed the automatic fan came on and would not go off, and I wasn't even doing anything to set it off. #3 5 hr window of having to be home, service tech comes out and removes the fuse and puts it back in and the fan went off. First thing the next am, I opened the microwave door and put something in, but did not turn it on and a few minutes later, the fan is back on again. So #4 is another repair tech is coming out. If this doesn't fix it we're told another company has to come out and check it. So far I've wasted 20 hrs for a freaking microwave that should have been replaced already.

What's great about it: Easy to use, even heating.
What's not so great: Mounting instructions could be a little more clear
I reviewed quite a few microwaves and I found this one by chance because it was actually display model. In the three weeks that I have this microwave it has been outstanding, the wattage is perfect, and the fan and light over the range work amazing. This microwave has all the standard features you come to expect from most microwaves and this device performs great. If you're looking for a great, fairly inexpensive, high-quality microwave this one would be the one to go.

What's great about it: Works well
What's not so great: Installation instructions and templates are incorrect
Bought this because the price and reviews were good plus it was in the same line as my stove and dishwasher. Overall the microwave works well and seems to be built good by today’s standards. My only complaint with the microwave itself deal with minor appearance issues. The microwave is white and the under side, the vent area that ends up above the range is dark grey. I’m not sure why it isn’t white? Also, the digital display is blue. My matching stove is in green and my old counter top microwave is in green. My wife is kind of burnt that the readout isn’t green like the stove.
My biggest issue is that the mounting instructions are incorrect. The picture and measurements for the back bracket are different than the one mine came with. The template given for mapping out the top holes is a joke, they are not right. You have to measure the distance and location of the holes microwave itself to get this right. You’ll see. Measure twice and drill once. I would have given this a higher review if the mounting instructions and templates were correct. Lucky I checked everything a few times before I drilled holes and mounted the bracket and microwave.

Poor Packaging, Small Turntable

What's not so great: Pretty small turntable for a relatively wide unit
Whirlpool no longer ships microwaves in cardboard boxes. Mine arrived with one corner crushed, but the bent sheet metal protected the styrofoam packaging quite nicely.
Quality control in microwaves appears to be at an all-time low - my last Samsung lasted just under 3 years. In spite of the lousy packaging, I bought a larger Whirlpool microwave that was on sale. My other Whirlpool appliances are still hanging in after 15 years. Buy something over 1.8 cubic feet if you want a turntable that is larger than a paper plate...

What's great about it: huge capacity
What's not so great: less space between stove top and microwave3 bottom
Thisi s a great microwave with only one fault. It hangs down closer to stove top than old over stove microwave with fan. Then again, at 2.3 cubic ft it is huge and can rotate even my biggest casserole. It gives great light to stove top which old one did not do very well.

The microwave wasn't the problem

I went to my local Best Buy in Viera, FL, they didn't have any in stock so they had to order it which it came in 3 days later. That was fine because I was purchasing for my mother and had planned on installing on the weekend. I picked up the microwave it was packaged with plastic and styrofoam when the man loaded it into my car everything went fine and smooth. We took it to Davenport, FL to install when we pulled off all the styrofoam packing it was severely dented in multiple places but the dents were all on the portions that wouldn't be seen once installed so we were going to keep it anyway but the main problem was a big dent in the top back which pushed up the top right rear so it could not be installed flush to the upper cabinet. We called the 800 number and the lady was helpful she found another unit at the Davenport store so we packed it up to exchange it. That is when it went downhill. The unit that was at the store was already tagged for someone else. We had them look at the distribution center 2 miles away and they had 2 but they were also tagged for other people so they wouldn't let us have one. I tried to get different microwave but every one we had them check they did not have any in stock at the store or distribution center. The only way I could get one was from the Atlanta distribution center which would take 3 weeks. I was so frustrated at this point I had the lady refund my money and I went down the street to a home improvement store who had 9 in stock and bought it there.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's not so great: Packaging does not protect the product
I picked up the microwave at the Manchester NH store. I examined the external packaging, but due to how it was wrapped (shrink-wrap and some cardboard) I could not detect any internal damage. After transporting the appliance 100 miles to install in my vacation home, and after doing most of the installation work, it was pointed out that the unit was badly dented. The damage was highly visible. So my trip to install was a waste of time and money, and my efforts on the actual installation were wasted. I had to bring the unit back to NH, return it, pick up a new unit, make the trip over again, and re-do the installation process. I am not a happy customer.

What's great about it: Good Price
What's not so great: Dimensionally doesn't fit the space advertised.
My GE microwave died after 12 years. Consumer Reports recommended this Whirlpool microwave based on their testing so I decided to try it. The Best Buy purchase was easy and efficient and the microwave looked good. When I went to install the microwave I could not open the door. I found out that the hinges on the door open wider than 30" and my space is constrained with a left hand wall. Buyers need to beware that this is not a good product if you have a left hand wall. GE builds thier hinges so that the door does not open wider than the 30" space. I returned the microwave to Best Buy and again got great service. This weekend I installed a GE microwave without a problem.

What's great about it: Reliability, good price
What's not so great: G.E. products we have had
We bought this microwave and installed it in late November, 2011. Our prior two microwaves at our condo were G.E. brand and didn't last for even two years, so we changed to Whirlpool. Everything works fine on the new microwave, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that Whirlpool will be a reliable brand. We have had good results with a past Whirlpool refrigerator and microwave, and we have now purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator (built by the same company as Whirlpool) for our present home to replace (again) a G.E. product that wasn't working properly. We don't have much faith in G.E. any more.

What's not so great: templet that didn't match the oven
Once I got the microwave home and open I noticed that the templet didn't seem to match the holes where the screws and cord would go. Because of this, I had to have someone install it for me instead of doing it myself which I had planned. The installer had a terrible time getting the holes lined up to fit the microwave and it took him much longer than it should have. I'm so glad I didn't try to do it my self but just thought it was strange that that the templet didn't match the microwave, It cost me another $125.00 to have it installed. ----- Just very frustrating.
