What's great about it: Durability, clarity, speed, sensitivity
What's not so great: Does not shoot lasers
I've had a Boss Metal Zone for years, so I already had confidence in the durability and design of this line. After a several-year hiatus from live performances, I had to buy a tuner which could easily be used on stage, between songs or after switching instruments. (I'd been using the tuner built in to the POD XT while recording or playing at home.)
So this was the obvious choice. It's built like a tank, its indicator lights are supremely visible, it picks up a signal very quickly, and is aesthetically pleasing overall.
The pedal has two modes to illustrate tuning: The first is the standard 'pointing needle' style, where a light illuminates to the left or right (flat or sharp) of your note, and moves closer to center as you approach your note (which is displayed in the center of the display).
The second mode uses a rapid sweeping motion of the lights (similar to motion lights around a marquee sign) which slow down and eventually stop as you approach your note. The lights sweep one direction if you're flat, and the other if you're sharp. This mode takes a little getting used to, but I cannot deny its coolness.
Both modes show an obvious "locked in" dance of lights when you land on the note. Couldn't be clearer.
As a testament to its sensitivity, it also works great when used with an acoustic guitar utilizing a "Woody" soundhole pickup. I was a little concerned because the output level on my pickup is pretty light, but this tuner picks it up as well as my electric guitars.

What's great about it: Super convieniet
What's not so great: nothing
before distortion, before delay, you should own this pedal. It has saved me so many times. Gone are the days of unplugging my guitar to plug into a hand held tuner. This is one of the greatest pedals you can have in your rack as unglamorous as it is.
This pedal will also work as a power source to all your other pedals with a daisy chain which makes it even more important if you don't want use a bunch of 9 volts. You don't have to worry about unplugging your pedals to save the batteries when you are done playing.
I would recommend this to a friend!
