What's great about it: Price and iPod Dock.
What's not so great: No HD radio and menus are a little confusing.
I bought this because my Harman/Kardon bit the dust on me. It's the best value for the money I think It came WITH the iPod dock and works everything from a first gen nano to the iPhone 3gs. Sound quality is much better than my 8 year old HK. It's also MUCH easier to listen to, hard to explain, but you'll understand when you buy it. I HIGHLY recommend the HW-C700 to everyone. This is just one more of my electronics that's shifted from another brand to Samsung. We ARE now, a total Samsung house hold.

What's great about it: Great sound. Super picture
What's not so great: nothing
Cosmetics - clean panel, nice display, all adjustments behind lower front panel door. Nearly all adjustments are also available from the remote.
Technical - Low weight, high power, runs cool, plenty of headroom. Great slew rate/rise time, power is instantly there, transient performance can be heard. Bass is very clean, without the power supply or transient smear of many other "quality" amplifiers. Treble is very clear. wire brushes are very clean and well defined. The company's claim to "crystal clear" is well-founded. The sound is clear, lacking or adding nothing. Samsung got this all-digital power amplifier "right". Automatic sound control (setup) is easy and gives a very clean, clear result. This unit replaced several other recent models in my system (Yamaha, Sony, Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo). All of them had sophisticated setup options as far as microphone positioning and time window/delay for measurement. This unit uses a music signal rather than pink noise for automatic setup. It apparently uses the music signal as a template to adjust the system. I tried setup microphone placement in several positions, and the best was as directed in the instruction manual ... at ear level in the listening position. I later tried the setup microphone on my chair seat near the rear of the seat and it was better. The "smart volume" option works great. It not only keeps loud commercials down. It brings periods of soft conversation up. It has a long enough delay to not affect musical dynamics. Logitech has updated its equipment library, so there was no problem setting up the Harmony remote. This has been the easiest setup I've ever done, and in a difficult room at that. Video is outstanding - crystal clear and sharp. I use JVC blu-ray, a Phillips blu-ray, and an Oppo HD DVD player .. all HDMI connected. The sound is excellent. The video is remarkably good ... as sharp and clear as anyone could want ... equal or better than the other receivers, I've owned. When changing video sources, the HDMI "handshaking" may take a few seconds, during which there may be no picture or a one-time flicker in the picture as it sets itself up. After that, the picture is very stable. Had some questions for Samsung that were solved in a few minutes. Customer support was cordial and very good. I bought this unit because of the digital power amplifier and the power supply design. Based on its performance, I'm glad I did.
This unit has had mixed reviews. It does exactly what it claims to do. If you read the manual online before you buy it you won't be disappointed. It will not allow you to simultaneously run an HDMI input with a different audio input on the same channel. Why would anyone choose to? It will not allow you to simultaneously run an audio signal from your TV while using the same channel for video from another source. HDMI audio is excellent. It doesn't need an optical or other separate audio input to compensate for poor audio on HDMI.

What's great about it: Classy looking, powerful clean sound, light weight, easy to set up.
What's not so great: slightly weak binding posts, no on screen menu
After using exclusively Onkyo recievers for years I decided to try this new reciever from Samsung on a whim due to the reasonable price and the high quality of Samsung tv's and bluray players. I figured if the reciever is anything like their other products it should be a good piece of equipment.
Well, so far I am not disappointed at all. Set-up was extremely easy and straight forward. I'm using this in conjunction with a Samsung 46inch DLP and a Samsung Bluray player.
One of the first things I noticed was how light the unit itself was compared to any of my Onkyo units, being that it is a "digital" amp the heat sink is not nearly as beefy and therefore lightens the unit considerably, only time will tell if this is an issue but so far it doesn't seem to be. The channel seperation and sound were well......amazing! The sound was crisp and clear with seemingly plenty of reserves on tap.
As far as compatibilty with a PS3 stated in the above review I don't know as this is not intended for a gaming system just a 3rd small home theater room. I do have one gripe and that is the binding speaker binding posts in the rear feel weak compared to many other recievers and I think that is one area that Samsung really didn't need to cut corners.
I'll get a better feeling down the road with more use but so far the Samsung in its price point is an excellent litttle unit and I've had Zero issues (other than the binding posts) thus far.

What's great about it: The sound is amazing!
What's not so great: Having to switch modes to control Samsung bluray player
I had to return the first unit I bought due to a buzz produced from the front right channel (DOA). However, the replecement worked flawlessly. I am extremely satisfied with the sound and quality of the unit for the price. I'm sure there are units with more features, but this has everything we needed in a receiver. Set-up was a breeze and it sounds great pushing Bose cube speakers. I like the iPod dock and Anynet+ feature also (controls our Samsung TV and Bluray). I connected everything through RocketFish10.2G HDMI cables; including XBOX 360, AT&T U-verse, and a Samsung Bluray player. Overall, the unit is very classy. Note the unit is super light weight due to digit technology compared to our old analog Yamaha receiver and sounds 10X better.

What's great about it: Nice aesthetics. Crisp clear punchy sound. iPod docking station, reference MIC.
What's not so great: Does NOT work well with PS3s. Menu is confusing. No onscreen GUI?
I bought this reciever yesterday to go wtih my 55" Samsung LED. Hooking it up was what I expected. The first thing I did was to test the HDMI switching with my PS3. I wrested for about an hour with it trying to get audio out only to find out that the Audio WAS working... it just wouldn't pick up the subtle key tones when navigating the menu on the PS3 XMB. I've had this problem with another Samsung Sound device as well. After realizing that the sound would inded work, the first thing I did was pop Pirates of the Carribean into my PS3. It sounded amazing. I then decided to pop in the reference mic to allow it to auto-adjust all of it's speaker settings, etc. That was easy and it worked great. The only problem is that when I was playig Blu-Rays on my PS3, I never saw any digital encoding going on... DTS never kicked in... true HD, nothing. The reason that I'm returning it today is because audio from the videos stored on my hard drive was just cutting in and out. I put in a game (Final Fantasy XIII) and the audio would cut in and out as the reciever kept trying to switch back and forth between DTS and Pro Logic... I have no idea if I have a bad unit or if Samsung recievers just don't work well with the PS3. Since the PS3 is my entertainment hub, I'm going to have to find something that will work friendly with it.
On a seperate note, my analog video inputs did not appear to be converted digitally to output through HDMI. I may have not spent enough time with it, but I figured I'd wasted enough time trying to get this thing to do "regular" things.
Again, this thing sounds great (when it works). I figure this is a great reciever if the only thing you're using with it are other Samsung components with AnyNet+ technology built in... otherwise, I would probably pass on this one, spend a few extra bucks, and pick up the Pioneer 1910.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
