What's great about it: Good camera and great features
What's not so great: You can only use it at night or indoors due to the LCD Only Viewfinder.
I found the LCD Only Viewfinder on a camera with a long zoom to be almost useless. I live in Florida and the sun shines a lot here. Indoors I love the camera. Outdoors it takes great pictures but I never am quite sure what I am taking a picture of until later. So sad. How much more could it cost to do this right?

What's great about it: Easy to use, good price
After reading some of the reviews on here I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant about purchasing this camera. I'm glad I did! The picture clarity and zoom are excellent. It captures vibrant colors perfectly. It doesn't come with a manual but I'm the type of person that prefers to learn as I go along. The battery life is great. I would recommend that you buy a screen protector. I have had no problems figuring out what the different options available on it are. My brother paid more then double what I did for a Sony. It has less zoom, the viewing screen is only half the size of this one, and the picture clarity is nothing compared to what you get with the Olympus. I took this camera out for a test drive at the zoo and got so many compliments from friends about the pictures I had taken. I highly recommend this camera.

What's great about it: The price, the feel and the features that you get.
What's not so great: I would not mind a view finder on this camera, but I have learned to compensate!
I have read many reviews about this camera. Many of them I find are too lazy to take time to learn the camera. I am a long time SLR user on a professional basis and working with a newspaper. This was my first venture into digital. I looked around for a long time and Picked the Olympus SP-800UZ for Price, features, telephoto, micro, reputation of the company. I got more than I expected with great Software for the computer to work with photos. Yes it has many features and when you take the time to learn them you have a wonderfull camera. I have used it for Micro shots of plants as well as scenes, dogs on the run and much more. I am planning a trip to Wales Great Britain and this is the camera I will take!!!

What's great about it: Easy to use, good price, great photos
This is a lot of camera for the money, it was a very good price compared to other zooms with rechargeable batteries, and the other features are easy to use. The photos it takes are terrific, and I even like the Olympus ib software for organizing and editing.

What's great about it: The zoom
What's not so great: no paper manual plus the fact the downloadable manual is rather limited in info it provides.
I bought this camera because I was wanting a compact camera with a huge zoom. The size was surprisingly small and is comfortable to hold. The photo quality is exceptional though I think the color quality could be a bit better. I was quite disappointed that the camera did not come with a manual and had to download one from the website. It's very annoying to have to get on the computer, find the download simply to find something in the manual. A paper manual is available for purchase from the website, at an extra 10 bucks. The camera comes with software however is not compatible with MAC. My previous camera a Sony automatically uploaded my photos to IPhoto when I connected the cables, however this Olympus does not. In fact, when I connect the camera to download photos sometimes my MAC doesn't even read that I have a camera connected, yet the camera does. At that point I have to reconnect until it catches. The camera's manual, to my disappointment ,does not even explain nor mention how to get the photos from the camera to the computer properly, so I don't know if there's a better way to do it. I have never had this problem with other cameras when using a Mac. I am not a novice at this and feel this camera is simply not as compatible with a Mac. The zoom is fabulous however extremely difficult to keep from blurring without a tripod. I have not played with all the features of this camera yet- mainly because I don't have the manual conveniently available. The flash does not pop up automatically when needed so if you are use to having that feature you may forget to pull it up like have. Surprisingly though, even without the flash most of my photos have come out quite clear in low light.. So far I am satisfied with the camera, but don't love it, and wonder if I would have been more satisfied with a digital SLR for the price I spent on this one. ...and the fact I need a tripod to use this zoom at it's highest. of 30x. Once I figure out all the features and get more familiar with its best practices I think I'll enjoy it more.

What's great about it: Zoom
What's not so great: No viewfinder or manual settings.Shutter lag.
If you are happy with a shirt-pocket point-and-shoot, you might love this bigger camera for its spectacular zoom. But beyond that a lot is lacking.
There is no view finder;the arms-extended method necessitates a match between your eyeglasses and the image out there. This also makes it unlikely that a high zoomed photo will not be blurred despite the image stabilization. The tight angle of focus makes it virtually impossible to keep the target in the composition unless you use a tripod. There is excessive shutter lag even in good light. There are no manual over-ride,such as Shutter Priority. This camera is a big version of pocket cameras used for group photos or broad landscapes without any well-defined focal object but for that purpose, who needs the extra bulk..

What's great about it: Fantastic pics, super videos, decent price
What's not so great: Can't shoot in B&W, kinda big and bulky
I love Olympus! I just tried a Canon before this and hated it, blurry pics sometimes, other times phenomenal pics, and it wasn't the photographer! This camera almost always take crisp clear beautiful pics and you don't have to be a pro to take these types of pictures. I love the video with sound. Very good quality and sound is excellent. I love how big of a zoom it has. I'm traveling in Europe right now for 9 weeks and it is taking great photos! It's also good with action shots which I tested out before this trip I'm on. I do wish it was smaller, but I'm sure with time that'll happen. Also wish Olympus wouldn't have changed their options with black&white, sephia, etc to do edits at the end.I really liked being able to take numerous photos in B&W instead of editing afterwards.

What's great about it: Reasonable price, great zoom, good picture quality.
What's not so great: Boot up time kind of slow.
So far so good. Many features that I haven't yet tried. Great zoom capabilities. Surprising how far I've been able to zoom and still get a steady picture without using a tripod. I've been successful just leaning up against something steady.
Picture quality looks good for full spectrum, close ups to distant shots.
Downsides: Camera is bulky and takes a while to boot up.

What's great about it: 30X zoom
What's not so great: No User's Manual.
It's a great camera, although I didn't like the package doesn't include a complete user's manual what makes difficult to figure out all the functions the camera has for a beginner.
The pictures are great, I took a pic of the moon and it was beatiful, it looks like a profesional picture.
The 30X zoom is amazing, and yes I would recommend it to everybody.

What's great about it: 30x optical zoom, 14 mega pix, shoots HD video, 2GB on camera space
What's not so great: Noise in the pictures, menu navigtion, battery life
I'll state the obvious first, its not as good as the other 30x optical compact camera on the market, but it is significantly less, in the range of a 100-200 dollars depending on where you buy it. For someone who doesn't have 500 dollars to spend on a camera, but still wants a GREAT camera, this is it.
I love that I can zoom in a large amount of distance, and still get a great shot, but with the 30x zoom, comes some problems. The cameras light weight means that even with mechanical and software based image stabilization, you still have a hard time of keeping the image still at 30x zoom. This is solved with a tripod, but there are times where you can't use one. The other oversight is the lack or a view finder. You may think "so what," but a view finder allows you to use your body weight and your forehead to stabilize the camera. These are overlooked in my case as I can use a tripod for most of my uses with this camera and that even if I don't use the tripod, I find another way to stabilize the camera if I'm having to zoom in very far.
One thing about this camera I love is that it is 14 mega pixels! This means that if you want to print larger images, this camera will provide you the method to do so. I also love the fact that this camera can shoot 720p video, while not 1080p, it still produces a very vivid and spectacular video. The camera can shoot with sound, but only when optical zoom is disabled, and for my line of hobby, I don't need to zoom in often, and almost never with a video.
The user interface on the camera is almost all done via a system of menus in the camera. This can be time consuming because you have to navigate to each option instead of being able to push hard buttons to rapidly change settings. If you NEED to change settings quickly, this may not be the best camera for you. I don't find it hard to navigate the menus, and once you slowly get used to it, you become faster and faster, but again, still not as fast as hard button setup and this is due to the compact design. This was something I did consider, and decided was not a MUST HAVE as I needed something compact with great features. The menus give you the standards: fully programmable, full auto, a series of presets, and some "magic" filters.
Yet, one of the best features on the camera is the included 2 GB of space on the camera. This meant that I could save a little money and buy an 8 GB SDHC instead of a 16 GB that I would have to buy with some other cameras. With this camera, at 14 mp, the average photo size ends of being about 3 to 4 mb a piece, but video will eat up space quickly, as even at 17 seconds it will eat up 15 mb (with sound on at 720p). Don't expect to be able to shoot 2 hour movies though, its max is 4 GB a video, or roughly 75 minutes a max vid.
As per someone saying this doesn't come with good instructions, the camera has them... yes, the camera has them. You have to plug the camera into you computer and install the software embedded in the camera, at that point the camera will leave the PDF manual on your desktop. I liked this feature as it saves paper : ).
The only thing I found horribly wrong with the camera was the battery. Its a tiny LI-50B battery. I recommend picking up a second or third battery if you're going any place far from a power source or will be taking a lot of pictures. I was able to run the camera to about 2/3 or 1/2 charge with one trip to Chicago and taking 62 photos. So as another person said, it will last probably 100 or so photos. I have not taken a long video enough to see how long the battery would last during video.
Overall, this is a very good camera. But the particular photoreceptor for this camera seems to create a lot of noise when on high ISO, it still shoots very very well. Compared to other cameras that can zoom in/out at the same range of this camera, it is by far much more inexpensive. It does take time to learn its all integrated menu system, and you may need to buy a tripod if you're going to zoom in to the full 30x optical, the camera performs very well. I have other cameras at home, and none feel as good as this one does in my hands. It may have seemed that I listed mostly negatives here in my review, but don't get me wrong, those are the things to consider that Best Buys site won't tell or show and must be considered when shopping for a camera. I considered these and I found a camera that I love. Its compact, its lightweight, the optical zoom is great and allows me to purchase this over a DSLR and the many lenses I'd have to buy as well (hurray more weight... not what I want), it shoots HD video, has great storage space already on the camera (1.7 GB free, so 425 photos or so), and while it may not matter to some, its by a brand that has experience in making superb cameras.

What's great about it: I really Like the 30x zoom, I like the lightweight and sleek look Menu system is decent once you get the hang of it.
What's not so great: No External mic input, No view finder, does not record in 1080i only 720p, no Manual focus or changable lenses.
I like this camera its a good all around travel camera, the rechargable li-ion batter was a nice addition, the 30x zoom is impressive when you hold the camera steady or on a tripod.
I would have liked to see:
manual focus. interchangable lenses, quick shoe for external flash,
View finder.
but this camera for the price was a good buy. does everything you need for high quality photos and decent videos.

What's great about it: Amazing clarity at 30x Zoom; ease of video recording one button touch
What's not so great: Playing with all the extra features drains battery fast. Will probably be better when newness wears off!
LOVE everything about this camera. Extremely easy to use IAUTO if you want the camera to make a perfect picture for you yet you can program adjustments in settings if you want. The double stabilizer feature works the best I've seen. Nearly freezes the motion when shutter button is pressed down half-way. Wide variety of pre-programmed "SCENES". One specifically for wildlife/birdwatching that I love. It makes me feel like I'm using a "macro" for the shot, the birds are so close. This camera is very comfortable to hold while operating. The HD video is superb. I've only had this camera for a week and don't want to put it down it is so much fun. I'm just a 60 year old female retiree who loves traveling/nature and photography. This camera is good for anyone that wants their pictures to look like a professional took them. Re: my two pictures... If you look way down to the end of the lake on the far right hand side you can barely see a water fountain (just in front and to the left of a tiny white rectangular building). After zooming in 30x and then cropping digitally I got this picture of the water fountain really close-up. Just love it!

What's great about it: Zoom, Quality of construction and Pictures
What's not so great: Battery life - only if you take more than 100 per charge...
Love it. I have had many cameras in my time. olympus has always been my choice for digital cameras. i am a Photoshop user all day and manipulate pictures. The quality of the pics when zooming is simply amazing. The Video is GREAT. (I heard about people griping about the lens cap. it's suppose to come off, so when you press the power on it just pushes the cap off instead of jamming the lens...) BEST CAMERA FOR THE $$$$..

What's great about it: The amount of pixels and zoom
I bought this camera for the great price and features It took great pictures over all the quality was nice. But you can't see the screen in bright sun and the panorama mode did not work well the pictures stitched together wrong and only 2 of them would stitch together not the about 4 panaorama pics. I had taken and I was told by Olympus tech you have to use a tripod for it to work better. Also the application you load onto your computer from Olympus did not work tried it on my computer and a friends didn't work on either one and even called the Olympus tech person was on phone for about an hour could not get it to work.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
