What's great about it: It was a floor model, so the price was spectacular. And I like Samsung electronics.
It's really nice to have a Samsung DVD Player instead of a no-name one. And this unit is nice and small.

I had to take the first one back. The second one now has a similar problem. It needs to be unplugged sometimes to reset. Otherwise, it is simply a paperweight. I bought Samsung because of quality...I got something that might as well have been left at the curb. This unit has problems. Because of the first one I was forced to return, I guess the problems are systemic. Boo to you, Best Buy. Please, I abandoned Frys Electronics because of too many similar experiences. Best Buy, please, DON'T be like Frys!

I don't watch movies a whole lot, so it isn't worth buying Blu-Rays and a Blu-Ray player. However I do want a quality picture on my HDTV when I do watch movies on DVD. This was a great choice at a great price.

this dvd player is perfect. plug and play with hdmi cable and you're good. the issues mentioned by others must be isolated incidents. the remote works fine and it provides more features than what comes with more expensive dvd player options. if you have a samsung tv, you can use the remote to control it. the product is stylish and takes up very little space. unless it blows up tomorrow, i think that i got a steal for the price that i paid.

What's not so great: Nothing.
This is a nice DVD player that fits in right next to my tv in my kitchen. This looks like a state of the art, high end DVD player but is VERY easy to use. Thank you Samsung and Best Buy, this is the best and cheapest I could find anywhere!!

What's not so great: power and remote issues
When I took the player out of the box for the first time and plugged it in, it wouldnt turn on. NO POWER. Finally I got the power to turn on and I watched a movie. The remote would not work for some reason and I could not turn off or stop the movie. Had to unplug it from the power strip. I was done with it and took it back to the store. I got the Sony SR500H for the same price. Works just fine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Good quality of display of movies, etc.
What's not so great: Functions on the remote control don't work properly
I just bought this cheap DVD player, to use over the next year or so - with the intention of getting a Blu-ray player. The picture quality of the movies is great. The movies also have a high definition quality because of it being connected to an HDTV with an HDMI cable. However, my main complaint is that not all of the functions on the remote control work properly. Perhaps this has to do with the programming of my cable tv and regular tv remote along with the use of this one. I cannot get the remote to go to a movie's main menu. I also noticed that the subtitle function doesn't work on it either. It's a good, cheap DVD player, but it's not the best of the best of them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It does exactly what it says it does: upgrades your non-high definition DVDs to high definition. If you have an extensive DVD collection and are not ready to upgrade to BluRay, this is the DVD for you. You will have to purchase a HMDI cable to connect it to your TV. I bought the cheapest cable I could find and it still works great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I selected this unit because it advertises that it plays mpeg-4 files in avi format. It does not. Tech support is not very helpful. Plan to return.

If you have a sizable DVD collection and don't want to go to Blu-ray, this player is your best bet. Provided you use an HDMI cable and have a high definition tv.

What's great about it: IT support DIVX format!
This player supports DIVX format, meaning; if you back up your movies on your computer or if you purchase downloaded movies online in DIVX format, (you can also convert them to DIVX format), you can burn up to 8 or 9 standard size movies on a single DVD and play them using this player.

I had a PS3 to play Blu ray. Just need a basic upconversion DVD player. Worked as expected.

It's a DVD player, the purchase was to match the TV to reduce Remotes sitting around.
It's clear on RCA better on composite (worst idea ever; cables everywhere) HDMI crisp as DVDs can get.
Colourful. Very little pixelation.
It's a simple box, the less gizmos the better on DVD, switch to bluray if you want more.

What's not so great: can't play DVD's
While very easy to set up, this DVD player won't play a single DVD. I tried multiple DVD, all in very good condition. It was able to get 30 minutes into one movie before getting stuck in a loop, but that was the best it did. With all other DVD's, it either couldn't play them at all or would get stuck within the first 5 minutes. I returned it to the store and replaced this with an LG DVD player that so far has played all DVD's without a problem. I will never buy another Samsung product again.
