What's great about it: the wide range it covers the bokeh produced and awesome shots
What's not so great: the weight is something to get used to but well worth it
Well that being said I can say this is my go to lens it never fails me . Simply said it will replace alot of the primes you may have from the 135mm to 200mm. Awesome for portraits and all around use.The bokeh produced is almost 3D. Only the 85Lmk2 gets more use for portrait shots.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very fast response, only drawback is the weight but that was expected. As a Canon fanatic this lens pure joy!

What's not so great: price/little heavy but is to be expected from a lens like this
This is my first l lens and I love it. It is my new goto lens.The photos from this lens are the best I have ever shot.If you are looking for a great lens get this one.My only regret is I had to buy this from amazon because best buy has not had it in stock for months.

What's great about it: phenomenal optics
What's not so great: hefty
This is the sweetest, most optically brilliant lens I have ever owned in my 35 years of photographing. It's tack sharp and so forgiving with the IS. You can get shots that you only dreamt about before. The boket is awesome and it doesn't lack anything. It's hefty as good glass needs to be. Be prepared for a bit of a workout. This lens will not disappoint you in every other respect.

What's not so great: Price, heavy compared to all other lenses in it's class
I've owned this lens since February 2010 when it first hit US retailers. In the 200mm range, I had owned the Canon EF 70-200 f/4L (non-IS) and the Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II. I also had the opportunity to use a friend's Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS (original v1).
The 200mm f/2.8L II is incredibly sharp wide open @ f/2.8 and for the price is an incredible value if you need f/2.8 at 200mm.
The 70-200 f/2.8L IS (1) has noticeable chromatic aberration wide-open.
But the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II is significantly improved over the original, and in my opinion (controlled testing), has sharpness wide open at 200mm that rivals Canon's 200mm f/2.8L II prime.
This lens is incredibly sharp and the 70-200mm focal range is so versatile. I shoot lots of portraits, and this is my go to lens (even over my 85mm f/1.2L II). While the 85L is considered the top portrait lens by most, I like the ability to shoot a photo session at various focal ranges / perspectives without having to change lenses.
If I was only allowed one lens in my kit, it would be this lens.
Some will find it heavy. Others will debate the price.
If either worry you, I assure you the superb quality of this lens far outweighs the price and weight.

Firstly, I wish Best Buy would use the correct nomenclature; this is a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.
I bought this to replace my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. This 2nd generation is sharper, especially at 2.8 and the AF seems even faster. I use it on my Canon 1DIV for sports, and on my Canon 5DII for indoor events. I am very pleased with the upgrade!

What's great about it: Superb image quality (crops are still amazingly clear), very fast AF, IS is as advertised and better than the Mark I
What's not so great: Hefty piece of glass...some may have difficulty the jump in price from the Mark I
Excellent lens to the Canon lineup and I must say one of the sharpest lenses I've ever had the opportunity to use period. The new formula Canon has used for this lens makes the images very sharp and the image crops are amazing to look at. About the only thing getting use to is the heaviness of the lens. Some owners of the 1st edition will have a difficult justifying the current jump in price to its current $2500 price tag. If you're quite content with the first version, I say stay with it for the time being and wait for the lens to come down in price over the course of the next year.

What's great about it: Excellent Sharpness, contrast, and detail
What's not so great: Pricey and heavy
This lens is excellent and easily becomes my favorite lens. Super sharp even at f2.8. Quiet and quick focus. I directly compared it with my Canon 100-400mm 4.5 - 5.6L lens and it trumps the 100-400 by a big margin in terms of sharpness and auto focus. I also attached the Canon 1.4x II extender to the 70-200 2.8 IS II and the sharpness of this combo still outperforms the 100-400mm.
Although it is pricey and heavy, you will forget all about it after you see the images taken by this lens.
Highly recommended. Job well done, Canon.

What's not so great: price of course
IS is super quiet on this lens...easy to hand hold even though this is a heavy lens. Images are fantastic and super sharp. Glad I spent the extra $$ for this lens. I tried the older model and for $2K it wasn't as sharp as I thought it should be at that price. If you can get this lens with the fantastic 36 mth financing, DO IT!

From all accounts this is probably one of the best advanced amatur/pro lens out there. Too bad best buy still does not have it in stock and like the other reviewer had post a long time ago, they do not even have it labeled right. You would think just that review would be enough for them to update this error, but nothing. Hopefully my flood of comments will help them figure this out. Hoping to purchase before the 0% deal goes away.
