Sounded better once I got the unit home. Has an internal cooling fan that the old bookshelf style boombox systems never used to have. Sound quality is good. Only complaint is that you actually need to read the owners manual to find there is actually a preset equalizer selection menu that is only accessible by using the remote control. Player plays mp3's on CD-Rs as well as having an easy access line-in connection for any mp3 player or mp3 capable cell phone that has an ear phone or headset connector. Line-in uses standard size headphone jack, not the mini jack size that many cell phones use these days so an adapter jack may be needed for some people. No quality problems as of yet, just be gentle turning the device off in order to avoid power surges and extreme static spikes in the speakers that happens if you unplug your line-in device while the unit is still in the line-in auxiliary audio device mode and powered on.

The recipient of the gift thought it was too big, too "old fashioned" to be useful for them. They wanted a good quality dock for their "I products" but felt it was too cumbersome and looked like an old, complicated product. THey got a cheaper, sleaker, simple, yet good quality dock with a radio that far surpassed this one.

The pros on this are great sound, ablity to play a variety of music types and compact design.
The cons - HORRIBLE quality - literally a piece of junk. I should have learned to not buy this system after my first one (first generation) of this died in less than 2 years. But, I could not find another system with the multi CD player and cassette deck. This time, it lasted less than a year, and of course not under warranty. Both systems had the same demise - the CD player "ate" the CD's and I could not get the drawers to open or get the system to release them. I had to pull out the CD drawers with a pliers, then shake the unit to get it to release the CD's. Horrible design and horrid quality. I am now searching for yet another replacement and will not even consider Sharp for any of them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This system was rated at 360 Watts of power. I was not impressed with the loudness it was ability to put out. I used it at an outdoor party and I was not impressed. But all the features work well.

I bought this for my Son's 18th Birthday. Just for him to have music in his room and be able to play his iphone music. His opinion is "it's a'ite". But I noticed that when he answers his iphone when it's on the ipod dock makes him sound like he is outside on a highway. But the radio and music sounds pretty good.

My unit was basically a test stereo for all of my speakers. By doing this, most would collapse and simply be overloaded. With this unit, by unplugging the cord, the unit is perfectly usable again. This lasted me FOREVER

We just bought this online for XMAS along with the 4th generation IPOD Touch for my 13 y/o son. He was very excited while we set it up in his room. Unfortunately, it is NOT compatible with his IPOD. The specifications ARE clearly listed on the side of the box, but no where on the website did it state that it was not compatible. We didn't even think to look at the box prior to wrapping it. You'd think that Best Buy or Sony would warn online buyers. Needless to say, he's been using the IPOD with headphones and the boom box with CDs in his room until we are able to find another to exchange it with.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love my compact shelf stereo system...
Positive:
-The sound is excellent (when playing a cd/ipod)
-I can use Pandora on my ipod when its connected to the system

-Depending on where you live the radio may/may not come in so clear..
-The Ipod dock (you can lock it into place) but it is pretty flimsy and after having this for several months.. if I don't put in my ipod securely it will get disconnected and stop playing through the speakers and I have to re-adjust my ipod.

Easy Fix: Buying an auxillary cable and hooking the ipod to that.. or using the cable to hook up the speakers to a computer and selecting music via the computer.
Overall: excellent sound.. love the base on this...and yeah the ipod dock may not be the best but it is decent enough.

Bought this unit online, sight unseen. Went with Sony because of brand name reputation. What a mistake. Unit is cheaply made, but I figured it would suffice for a small office system. CD player quit working on the third day. It isn't worthy of having the Sony name on it.

A quality product that produces great sound. The ipod dock is a little flimsy but as long as you are careful and pull straight up on ipod to remove it, you should be fine.
My only problem is the lack of a red/white audio plug in. The single plug in still works fine thought, you just need to buy a Y cable.

Love this little unit...incredible sound, plus all the added features you would ever want or need packed in. Sound does not get distorted and controls are easy to operate. Perfect addition to any room. Price was more then fair...enjoy

What's great about it: I absolutly love the sound even with out the sub and i love how the ipod dock is lockable
What's not so great: if you wiggle the ipod of the plug in it will completely ruin the stereo
the stereo is great but there are a few things i would change on it one of whick being the overall duribility. i think it could be inhanced by making the ipod plug in stronger so that people are able to wiggle the ipod off it or make it easier to take the ipod of the plug sum how. another thing i would change is put more ventilation in it like on the top so that if its near a wal it wont over heat because think about it its not like someone is going to put the stereo in the middle of the room. the last thing i would do is instead of using a pop open cd player have one the slides in and out with out the laser being shown because it seems like the laser get dirty very easly and that once its dirty you can clean it which is the first problem i had with the last one i bought. i bought another one because i loved the sound so much but if it breaks on me again i'm going to try a different type of stereo.
