What's great about it: Great high quality player
What's not so great: Can be a little noisy at times
I got this from my dad for my birthday. Actually he bought it for himself and decided to get one for me. We have always been big fans of Denon. When it came time to get this player for me everybody was sold out because of the natural disasters in S.E. Asia. So he gave me his. I got it home and it took all of 5 minutes to hook up. Basic plug and play. It has very simple menus which is nice for ease of use. I did not hook it up to the internet since I am not planning on streaming movies from Netflix and this time. For audio I have it paired with a Denon AVR-3803 and just a Samsung 630 series LCD TV. But with that I am blown away with the picture quality with both Blu-Ray and DVD content. The audio quality for CD's is also decent. I would recommend this player to anybody with a decent home theater system.
The first movie I played in it was the Bourne Identity in Blu-ray since I already have them in DVD format. What a difference in just the opening scene.
I do want to put this information out there about high-def products. Because of the much larger size of content they are a little slower to load. So it will take about a minute for the player to power up and a couple of minutes to load a Blu-ray disc. I have also learned that with some discs you cannot pause the disc for more than a couple of minutes otherwise you have to start over but if you follow the disc instructions (all seem to be different) that can be avoided.

What's great about it: Easy setup, 1GB RAM
What's not so great: it's all good...
This is the low end player for Denon but there is plenty of great features! This player excells with BluRay movies and streaming is effortless. With all of the internet features that exist on the TV, Receiver, BluRay, Apple TV, Google TV, etc. the BluRay player is the only way to connect to Netflix! With 1GB RAM, the movies are without glitches or slowdowns. 1080P/24bit is standard so you always get the best format and picture! I You won't be disappointed. The 3D passthrough works great! Recommend this to anyone who wants great quality at a fair price.

What's great about it: The picture and the sound quality
This is an outstanding Universal player. The picture quality is phemominal. The sharpness and color are excellent. The Moria scene from Lord of the Rings with the Balrog was amazing when it's played in this player I saw detail I'vw e never seen before. Black and white images have excellent contrast. When watching "bride of Frankstien" you fully see how the lighting was used to create horror and suspense. The sound reproduction is excellent. I the SACD version of Pink Flloyd's " Darkside fo the Moon" and have never heard sound this great off a disc before. If you love great video and audio this is the player to chose. The player does lack wifi and Vudu and Blockbuster contentions. However, I can live without them considering how solid this player is. Additonally, this player is well built, with clean appearence and faceplate controls are easy to read and use.

I bought this unit yesterday even tho the Magnolia Hi Fi guy told me I wouldn't see a difference between the Denon 1611 and my PS3. And he was right. I used Transformers 3 and Ironclad as my test movies and the picture quality was identical.I watched 5 minutes or so of different segments of each movie and switched between the PS3 and Denon and saw no difference, not even a little. I use the high end Audio Quest Vodka HDMI cables so I get a sharp pic. However the Denon ,though not bad, did not impress me. And the thing cost $500. You can tweak your picture with options in the Picture menu but it didn't make a difference. The man at Magnolia HiFI said Blu Ray is Blu Ray. The cables you buy and your tv will determine the Blu Ray picture you get. He did tell me what this unit does do well is upconverting of non Blu Ray discs. Since I don't watch them I have no need for it. If you are putting together a Home theater and got the bucks, then this is a nice DVD player, but if you are looking to replace your existing DVD player, and you already have a good TV and cables, then save your moola. PS3 offers a lot more for your money, even if you don't play games, I am sure other lesser priced DVD's perform as well too, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Audio - Picture quality
What's not so great: Price a bit high, but you get what you pay for! Awesome
We all awesome that all Blu-Ray players are the same. Guess what? There is a difinitely a difference between a high end Blu Ray player and an entry level.
This particular model 1611 is not the top of the line. Top of the line is in the thousands of dollars, but this a step before spending crazy money unless you can afford too, The picture and audio are just awesome especially if paired up to Denon AVR receiver. i suggest the bad boy AVR 4311. This is a universal player which means it plays practically all types of audio CD and DVD media. Hope this helps! The Best Boy at Fort Lauderdale Florida -Federal hgwy Rock big time! especially the customer service and managers! Awesome store. Thanks. Ralph

What's great about it: internal media player, usb port, upconversion, 24bit sound processor... amazing
What's not so great: bulky, slow load times, currently no search option available for netflix. No pandora app/wireless feature
Let me start off saying that I love this blu ray, but you need to know what you are buying. This isn't a blu ray you want to throw into a bedroom necessarily. It is a little bulky, but the blu ray is another Denon success!
What I like:
It does a great job up converting to 1080p, and features 24bit processor for greater clarity in sound.
USB port for external flash/hard drives for the 1611's built in media player. Also, if you select home on the remote, you can also select media, and pull movies and songs off of your computer. Note: you need to make sure the folders are available to be shared under the admin section of you computer. Still, this is a nice feature for your "legally downloaded material." Also, this blu ray player has built in support for Divx HD codecs.
As of February 2011, the Netflix widget doesn't support a search option, so you will need to go to the Netflix.com website find you movie, and select instant que, so that the movie can be available for instant watch. Ever week they do update the selection, under different each genre, but the selection is limited to what Netflix actually has.
I currently don't use any of the other formats of Dvd's, to use this as a universal player. I did a long time ago, first jump into the HD-DVD player, and can tell you that codec is not supported by the player, but that doesn't really bother me.
When using the player for what it was really meant for, the player performs amazingly. Load times are a little slow, but when you see the picture clarity and hear the sound, you can tell why it takes a little longer. I was originally using my PS3 as my blu ray player, and I can notice a noticeable difference.
Finally, Denon added a firmware update that allows for 3D. I just wish this player had a Pandora app, and the ability to connect wirelessly. You can for $60 by a wireless ethernet adapter that will plug into the wall outlet; which is cheaper, but you're still looking at running an ethernet cable from the wall/surge protector.
I highly recommend this blu ray player.
