What's great about it: Easy to set up, easy to use, good price
What's not so great: Shipping took awhile
The main reason I ordered this particular DVD player was it's ability to play DivX/AVI files. I had some home videos that I had converted to digital form, and I was able to play them with no problem. I was also pleased to see that my mp3 player could connect to this DVD player, so I could play my music from the player and on my television. When I have friends over, they sometimes bring data disks with movies, and I'm able to play those with no problem as well. I cannot comment on the quality of the picture, because I have an old TV that doesn't have great picture anyway. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase. I think it's well-worth the cost. It was (and is) worth every penny. The shipping took awhile, but it was worth the wait. It suits my needs perfectly.

What's great about it: ease of installation and use
What's not so great: slow/poor remote controls
This DVD player set itself up right out of the box, it was that easy. The picture is good, and all the functions work fine. My only complaint is that the remote doesn't always work . . . I have to practically stand a foot away from the player for it to turn on (but not off), and continually press certain buttons to get them to work. I'm not sure if this is a problem only with my particular unit or all of this model, and it is a pretty minor annoyance, but you might want to think about it if your player is not conveniently close to you when you are watching it.

What's great about it: Hdmi connection
What's not so great: The remote is not very reactive
I I read earlier that this player was not compatible to free regions.
It's false.
You have one manipulation to executed with the remote to change region 1 to 0 all regions (thank you Google) and then the drive works perfectly with DVD Zone 2.
This little player cheap, is recommended for people who came from Europe with their DVDs.

One of the reviews said that this DVD player works as an all region player, which is why I finally purchased it from Best Buy (though the product description does not). However, this one definitely does not. It is the DVP3560 NOT THE DVP3560/F7 which is all region. It was the only reason I was interested in this product, so it did not meet my expectations. Cannot speak to any of the other qualities.

What's not so great: No comlaints
the Phillips DVD player is one of the best deals I have found in a long time. Not only does it play DVDs but it has a USB port so u can play videos, or music from your mp3 or Ipod. It has good picture quality 1080 resolution and all for under 50 bucks.

What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: Noise
Worked fine with HDMI output, picture OK, but loud noise from disc motor. Tried several disks, not sure if it is just this unit or the model but taking it back, will try Sony for $10 more. Don't mind mechanical noises when opening, closing, or searching, but constant hum when in normal play was not tolerable.
BTW - I was pleasantly surprised that my Sony TV would turn on automatically through HDMI when disc inserted. If not for the noise I would recommend it.

What's great about it: Wide format acceptance and low price
What's not so great: Remote buttons are iffy, and no NTFS support on USB
Philips 3560/F7. Overall, this is a good unit for the money. That said, I should note that I am running this unit in 480p with the component hookups; I am not running HDMI and not running the up-conversion. At the time of this review, I’ve watched about 12 hours of commercial DVDs, 24 hours of burned DVDs (RW and –R), and 4 hours from USB thumb-drive (FAT32 format).
The bad: The remote is soft and sometimes unresponsive. The picture does seem to overscan (project larger than the screen) on my CRT, but the picture frames correctly on my girlfriend’s LCD (provided overscan is turned off on the TV). The overscan is most annoying during JPEG slideshows. I did have one random pause and one artifact on one burned DVD.
The mediocre: It does not play NTFS or exFAT formatted USB devices. Why is this an issue? FAT32 (the largest supported format for USB on this DVD player) will not hold single files larger than 4GB; thus uncompressed, full-length, HD movies will not load onto compatible USB devices. Though limited, USB thumb-drive access for shorter or appropriately compressed video, music, or JPEG slideshows is nice. It doesn’t support MP4 with h264 (the more common MP4 codec).
The good: Besides the one DVD mentioned above, playback was flawless. Burned DVDs, be they regular format, MPEG1, or MPEG2, play well. Burned MP3 CDs, JPEG CDs, and CDA CDs play fine. Same with USB stuff of the same formats. It does what it is supposed to, at least at 480p.
Sure, it is constructed of the cheapest plastic around, and the remote is the least impressive I’ve owned. But if you want a cheap player that accepts more formats that the typical player, this is the way to go. $40 isn’t likely to buy you the latest and greatest, so don’t expect it; but it will buy you a perfectly acceptable player.
If you don’t want the broad format acceptance, Sony has a model in this price range without upconversion, which has resume-from-last-stop (my favorite feature). If you want superior overall video and very broad format acceptance, you should shell out for a good BluRay and a separate WDTV settop box.
This product has... Good connection options, Easy to use controls, mpeg2, usb

What's great about it: Great picture quality, region-free (with unlock), cheap as dirt!
What's not so great: Remote is cheap.
Purchased this on 11/8/11 for use as a region-free player. Picture looks great. Using it on a Vizio 37" 720p HDTV and a Sharp XR-32X 1080i MAX projector. Upconversion looks great on both. Blows away my computer that has a decent Nvidia GT250 graphics card. DVDs look awesome on this player. Just Google the region unlock hack for this unit, as I did, and you'll be playing all your DVDs. I had some concert and soccer DVDs that can't be played on region1, but with the unlock on this player I could play all of them. The remote is pretty cheap for this unit, but it works fine. All in all, you can't beat an awesome looking DVD player with upconversion that performs well and can play any region DVD for a measly $40 some bucks. Sweet! If you are looking for a cheap, great looking DVD player, buy this one!

What's great about it: Plays DIVX files through a USB port.
What's not so great: Cuts off end of files larger than 1GB - aggravating!
This is a standard dvd player which will upconvert your dvd's to near perfection on a high definition tv. The real reason I bought it was for the usb port, to play downloaded divx movies. This is a great feature, but unfortunately the player does not read the end of a file if it is larger than about 1GB. So that is something you need to know BEFORE you purchase this player, as they do not advertise such a drawback. I'm all for going disc-less, as much for saving space as for convenience.

I bought this DVD player to replace an an older Philips DVD player that stopped working. My primary use is to play DIVX videos I download from the internet. This one is even better than the older model because it accepts USB Flash Drive input. I no longer have to burn DVDs for videos I don't want to keep.
I got about 5 years of service from the older model. This was good based on the reasonable price of the product.

What's great about it: plays everything, scales perfect
What's not so great: remote
I ended up returning this and buying a PIONEER DV-220V-K 1080p HDMI UPSCALING REGION FREE DVD PLAYER w/ USB Input about which I said...
I bought a cheaper Philips DVP3560/F7 that did the DivX/AVI and USB jobs great too BUT had a lame remote. By that I mean it was not only over-simplified, few controls, but had button-response problems. The player just didn't respond. The reviews indicate this is not an uncommon problem with that Philips. After a couple of weeks I discovered that if I pressed the buttons on a diagonal, not straight up and down, the player would respond, but even that was inconsistent. Maybe I got a lemon or maybe it's a design flaw, who knows?

What's great about it: xvid playback; ease of use
I bought this DVD player because I download a lot of shows and then burn them to dvd, and most dvd players will not play data files. This dvd player has xvid playback, so I can easily pop in my burned DVDs or a regular DVD and it will play all of them! The HD comes through very nicely and it is super easy to use. The price was great and I have had no problems with my DVD player in the several months that I have had it.
