What's great about it: Clever, smart, well thought out design
I cut both my beard and hair quite short, and have shopped for nearly a year, spending nearly $500, 8 different clippers (returning most), trying to find something for trimming my own hair. I've used the Norelco Q5170 for several months now and it's exactly what I was looking for.
- The blades are sharp, efficient, don't grab and cut cleanly. I can run the blades with or without the comb anywhere on my face, ears, beard, underarms and never get a nick.
- The grooming comb is designed such that hair will not clog up.
- The grooming comb has a clever, effective design. 5 settings with one comb.
- The battery lasts a long time. I've trimmed all my hair and beard four times and it's still going strong.
- I thought the 180 degree rotating head was a little silly, but it really makes a difference. You quickly realize that all other clippers, with the blades perpendicular to the barrel, are not ergonomic. Turning the blades parallel with the barrel makes trimming so much easier. Being able to rotate it both ways is an added plus.
- The attachments are very effective (nose hair, and eye brow comb). I can do everything with this single clipper.
