What's great about it: Functionality
What's not so great: nothing.
Dear Reader,
I have used Visio software for years. To begin i first used it to produce clean and accurate drawings. Similar to blue prints or todays CAd drawings. This software has tools that enable the user to access drawings produced on differnent software (depends on version) and allows for the user to make changes and produce proffesional drawings, from building, to structural to electrical. I personally used it to show superiors what (we) were doing and why.
For example used it to show senior VP's of a major cereal producer, why we were going to install a new control system and how. The sketchs 8 x 11 were very detailed and like the man said about a picture saying a thousand words. It showed non-electrical types how the wiring was to be installed. And exaclty where the savings would be. (This was from distributed I/O to a new distributed system) It also helpded explain work from change orders, to home inspecionts work. I also used it to record my wiring at home TV and suc h. Or to show others how to perform similar work.
Buy this software if you need to create complicated drawings but cant not afford the thousands for the CAD type of programs.

What's great about it: Useful for nearly every situation where a visual aid helps
What's not so great: PRICE, PRICE, PRICE......
First off: I've sung Visio's praises to many people. However, while the pricing on Visio is no where near as ridiculous as MS Project, it is still too high. This is a program with a million uses. I've used it to create maps for my wedding, make Org Charts, process flow, and project planning. Now as a start-up, it is tough to justify the cost. This is a program which, when you need it, is the best solution that I've seen. But I've never needed it full time. I've used it for a day or two and then not touch it again for 2 months.
At $100 to $150 it is nice to have. At $250...maybe next year, unless I come across something else first.
As for the people to whom I've praised Visio...why should they just pick up a copy at this price, when they are getting by without it?
I would recommend this to a friend!
