What's great about it: looks and works great on land and sea
What's not so great: price tage is in the higher end of whats out there.
I have had this head unit in both an off road vehicle, and then in a rigid inflatable 27' boat. The interface is very easy to operate while moving- big volume and tuning knobs, and the screen is big and fairly bright.
Its a nice feature to be able to put a dvd music video cd in and have the video playing on the screen. It also has an output that we were able to connect to a GPS/Radar garmin screen with video input so that wed have a bigger image playing in tandem.
Downside of Ipod/iphone use is that the on-screen menu is limited where you can not easily scroll to find a song, etc, but this is normal on most ipod compatable head units, the best thing is to have playlists prearranged to select. It has a seperate menu to access the videos on the ipod. You may have to buy the clarion ipod video cable separately, unless you already have an Ipod video cable that separates the video feed into an rca connection, and connect that into the stereo's video input.
It has a really nice nautical equipment appearance on the console of a boat, compared to a normal 1 dim headunit. It has weathered pretty well in the one year I have it on the boat, and comes with a plastic cover, similar to marine radios etc, to protect it from sun and elements when not in use. The unit mounts via several screws surrounding the DIM opening, that are exposed when the hinged face of the unit is lowered to insert a CD. the face has an oring type seal when it is in in the closed position, to protect the CD mouth.
I would recommend this to a friend!
