Lemme start off by saying that I'm just a beginner player and I have only just scratched the surface of what I'm capable of. I can play a few songs with both hands, but I'm still pretty novice otherwise.
This keyboard is really big after only having a 61 key keyboard for a while, but I like the extra keys. The sounds are great on it too. There are lots of useful options too (including the ability to turn off the key sensitivity or choose from 3 other sensitivity settings). I bought this keyboard for the split piano but I was pleasantly surprised at all the other features of this thing (recording, dual voice, learning options). I can't be happier with my purchase.

What's great about it: Value for the price and quality of sound
What's not so great: Minor craftsmanship issues out of box (cosmetic only)
We needed a practice keyboard with a headphone jack so the "experimenting" outside of the actual piano practice did not drive the family crazy. It has a great sound when no headphone is used and is almost silent (except for some keyboard sounds) when the headphones are used. It also has a enough extra features to keep it interesting.

What's great about it: Sound, touch sensitive works great, compatible with most pedals.
What's not so great: No line-out or audio-in jacks. Not many functions compared to the Casio wk500. Can't edit rhythms.
I purchased this keyboard and a casio wk500 both to compare them toe-to-toe. I ended up choosing the Yamaha. Both were great and a good deal for the price. The yamaha has great sound as always, and the touch sensitive keys work wonderfully. It has alot of familiar voices and styles for any of you Yamaha veterans out there. This keyboard is also compatible with every sustain pedal that I have tried. The main problem with this keyboard vs the casio is that this keyboard is a little more complicated to use. To change certain functions you have to press alot of buttons unlike the casio. Also this keyboard only has a headphone, sustain, and usb jack. It would be perfect if it had line-out and audio-input jacks like the Casio. Also you can't edit rhythms on it like on the casio. The main reason I chose this keyboard was because it was $50 cheaper than the Casio. And because the keys are just so much better than the Casio's. I honestly think that this and the Casio wk500 are evenly matched but of course the price differs about $50. I also feel that the Yamaha is alot more durable and the keys feel alot better as far as weight and tensity goes.

We bought the Yamaha keyboard to get our kids started in music and they love it. I have also picked it up again and love it. The sound quality is excellent. We still have to explore all the features, but it's perfect solution for us to introduce music in our family.

What's great about it: We got started right away. Very little fear of learning.
What's not so great: It's all good.
Was looking for a piano for wife to begin learning the piano for an elementary stage. The DVD helps with initial touching the keys and beginner theory. The bells and whistles are facinating enough to keep her and me interested and continuing to practice. A good buy (on sale) from Best Buy!

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Nothing
I've done months of research and cant find a better piano than this one for the price. And even at that price point the YPG235 comes with a six track sequencer. And if you are a beginning student than what comes with this keyboard is a great feature, the Yamaha Educational Suite. The keyboard itself features a graded hammer action with medium weighted keys. The keyboard features great sound patches for the price. This keyboard is not just reserved for the beginning student but also for the professional keyboardist who is looking for a budget piano. The YPG235 features a comprehensive set of sound patches but at its core is the YPG delivers a wonderful grand iano sound. This doesn’t come as a surprise as Yamaha is well known for making fine acoustic grand pianos, sounds that have been captured in the Yamaha YPG235. The stereo sampled grand piano sounds very true to life. What’s interesting about this keyboard as well that the semi-weighted graded hammer action adapts well to the beginning and mid-level pianist. Quite simply the beginner has a chance to scale up their playing ability without running into roadblocks that can overburden the beginner pianist with a fully weighted keyboard. The Yamaha educational suite features a unique and highly effective learning tool that is also very simple to follow along. Educational tools are designed to help any students of any age to further their musical development. The YPG235 comes complete with 30 internal songs and with a CD-ROM that includes an additional 70 songs. What’s interesting about the educational suite is that it is designed to be simple to follow, removing impediments to help the student progress in their piano playing abilities. In addition to the Yamaha Educational System you can download songs from a vast Internet based library just by plugging your YPG235 to your computer using the piano’s USB port and then downloading the library files to your keyboard. You can learn so much from the downloaded songs by following along with the midi file in play mode from the 6 track sequencer. Or you can use the sequencer to lay down your own tracks and learn how to put music together. Personally I like to lay down the drum track to get the feel and rhythm, then chords and bass to further enrich the rhythm and lastly the melody. I find doing this way help me to get my creative juices going to create the melody. The piano comes complete with backlit LCD panel 489 GM voices , a dual/split keyboard and 32 notes of polyphony. The keyboard comes complete with inputs for the headphones and the sustain pedal.
Overall this is a great keyboard (period).

What's great about it: The Yamaha name
What's not so great: Sound. Also, it doesn't come with song book.
There was not a model on display and I purchased the keyboard because of the Yamaha reputation. However, when I got home and played it, the sound volume was not even sufficient at maximum volume. Also, when I played more than 5 notes at a time, it seemed like one or more keys wouldn't sound. PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY!, maybe I purchased a defective piano? I took it back and bought a Casio that is excellent.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this for my fiance for christmas...I've been waiting patiently for it to be delivered. I happened to go out of town on the day it was delivered. Instead of him just seeing that I received a box and setting it aside, he was given a box with "YAMAHA GRAND KEYBOARD" ALL OVER THE BOX and a picture of the keyboard! Obviously the surprise was completely ruined. Go to a store and pick it up if you want to surprise someone.
Other than that, good gift. He's happy with it, 22 days before he was supposed to open it.
