The Livescribe I purchased just a few days ago, was the Echo 4 GB. I began school today 01/11/2011 and it has Already saved me in my classes. I use my new pen primarily in my algebra class to return to my notes listen, and its as if I was sitting in class and imagining myself writing my notes again as they scribe onto my screen just like i wrote them at the time. The part that saved me is all the information that I heard reviewing my notes from the pen that i missed in class. This pen would be perfect for Teachers helping students who need visuals, students who need more review, and anybody who wants to go above and beyond.
What's great about it: Easy to figure out, Design, Clearity of recordings without headphones, Transfer time is quick
What's not so great: Price, livescribe desktop makes my computer choppy with other programs running no pause or playback control review on pc
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought it from Bestbuy and could not wait to get it going.
Will it said to go to www.Livescribe.com/install and that page is no good so I went to www.Livescribe.com to see if I could find the software for it and I can not find it, I can find add on app that you pay for but no software to make it WORK this Pen SUCK and it going back to the Bestbuy.

What's great about it: Nonthing
What's not so great: There no software in the box to use the Pen and the web site doesn't have it.

If this product seems to good to be true, it's because it is. Do not expect to be able to manipulate or delete anything once it's already been recorded. I have lost 2 WEEKS worth of class notes because of this - it wrote/recorded over previous notes. Customer Care, while nice, was unable to help because the pen is "incapable" of "undoing" what was done. Really? Then how come my $50 digital recorder and $5 flash drive are completely capable of that? The money doesn't hurt as much as the loss of info. I am furious!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This pen was all I imagined and more! I am using it for college and so far it has been a great asset. I would highly recommend. You can actually take notes and send them to your computer.
What's great about it: conversion of notes from pen to computer

I am an original owner of a Pulse 1GB Smartpen but recently upgraded to this one for the new features and of course more memory. They both function very similar but the echo is much more comfortable in the hand and the added memory is great. This is NOT just another high tech device that is all gimick. It actually works exactly as advertised and shown in the video. The audo quality is as good as any digital recorder and the way it ties your written notes to the audio is amazing. I use mine every day at work to keep a journal of my work. It's priceless.
What's great about it: Ties audio and written notes together in an easy and very functional manner.
What's not so great: Would have been nice to include the headset but not a deal breaker.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is an awesome pen. It's like having a computer in your hand. I think everyone wants to know if the pen really turns your handwriting into typed text. THE ANSWER IS YES!!! I was so excited about this feature and it really works. If you don't buy this pen, you'll definitely wish you had.
What's great about it: Great features and decent apps
What's not so great: No bundled packages, had to purchase my accessories seperately
I would recommend this to a friend!

The Livescribe Echo lives up to what I expected from Livescribe, given that I own a 4GB Pulse. The following are the "pros" of using the ECHO smartpen:
1. The pen performs as advertised and the enhancements or software updates did improve performance significantly.
2. The ability to make a "custom notebook" through Livescribe desktop is very useful.
3. The whopping 8 GB memory helps a lot! Now I just bring the echo smartpen to class (I'm currently in my 2nd year of grad school.) instead of schlepping a digital recorder and my laptop.
For "cons", the only one I can think of is the price, but given the value and practicality of the pen, it is still well worth the price!
What's great about it: easy set up, configures to lefties, convenience, anti-roll design!
What's not so great: price, 3d recording headset not included in starter package
I would recommend this to a friend!
