i cried when i listened to the whole thing for the first time. not gonna lie. after having suffered my own tragic loss a month ago, i think the guys really tuned into what they were feeling when they wrote this and they were able to reach out in ways that far surpass their grasp in earlier albums. this album is a culmination of all of the years that the band has been together and you can hear it in every one of the tracks. it sounds like a solid combination of every one of their prior albums with lyrics that remind me of the power of city of evil and the verbal arrangement of their self titled album while the instrumental work is something that is just as raw and passionate as waking the fallen and sounding the seventh trumpet.
there's no way you can call yourself a fan and not own this cd.

If you've hears any rescent Avenged sevenfold, such as there self titles, or City of Evil. you may think you know what your getting yourself into. the answer to that assumption is you are and your not. what your Gonna hear is a Tribute to Rev, Avenged Sevenfolds past drummer. This Album Is quite frankly there most emotional album yet, taking you through the twists and turns as previous albums, but with more anger, more sorrow, and more Mike Portney. Im not going to Spoil anything for Fans or Lovers of Avenged, but i will say that you wont be wasting your money at all, and you'll definatly hear 5 of there best songs ever on the latter half of the album, partly because of the roll Mike Portney Played as Lead drummer. For those that didnt know, Mike is the lead Drummer of Progressive metal band Dream Theater. Avenged invited him to play in rev's place, and he immediatly accepted. Because of this, The 3 progressive Metal songs found on this album Were given some Great Assistance, making there Final song of there album there best crack at the Genre yet! However, there is one downfall the Nightmare album... If your a new comer to avenged sevenfold, i cannot recomend this album for you until you've checked out previous albums. This album, unless heard after there previous albums, will throw you off and give you a distaste for there Outstanding music. If your New, Do yourself a Favor and check out there older music first.
What's great about it: Avenged is back, More pasionate than ever
What's not so great: Not the right introduction for newer fans of the band

What's great about it: Good for easing the mind
What's not so great: not as fast paced but obviously they went in a different direction

Great album, esp. considering they lost their drummer after only one song they recorded with him for this album. Listen to more than just the hit "Nightmare", almost every song front to back rocks if you are an A7X fan.

I am definitely what you would call a hardcore A7X fan. I have listened to them since the release of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet when I was 8 years old. My favorite album is Waking the Fallen by far.
Now for the review. I honestly think the closest sounding album to this they have done is Diamonds in the Rough. It reminds me of that album the most. There is elements of self-titled and City of Evil though. Honestly, I hate City of Evil. I think it is probably their worst album, but the album "Nightmare" definitely has a lot of similar qualities to it.
This is a great album if you love Avenged Sevenfold. If you like City of Evil or Self-titled then you should definitely pick this one up. The run time is over 60 minutes, so you get your money's worth.
I rate this an excellent when comparing it to all types of music out there, but for Avenged Sevenfold I would give it a 4/5. It's not as amazing as their Self-Titled album or Waking the Fallen to me, but it's definitely a great album.
What's great about it: Quality sound, Sounds like Avenged Sevenfold, Great Lyrics

This CD is awesome. Nightmare is amazing and God Hates Us is awesome too. I've liked A7X since they released CIty Of Evil but i got kinda bored with them and this CD made me go out and buy Waking The Fallen (which is also a great album). If you are just getting into A7X this one or City Of Evil would b the album to purchase
What's great about it: IT'S A7X!!!!!!!
I would recommend this to a friend!
