Microwave sparked a lot and stopped heating

GE Profile Series 2.2 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave Oven (Model PEB7226SFSS) came with the house. It looked sleek and functioned well initially, but unfortunately, it has now stopped heating after sparking during operation and after some research, it's clear that this is a known issue with the magnetron in this model. For a high-end model from a trusted brand, I expected much more durability and product reliability. Now we are stuck with all the extra parts and not a proper replacement and can't match with other appliances. GE should stand behind its products, especially when there's a clear pattern of defective components. This has been a major inconvenience, and I expected better from a premium appliance line. Very disappointed!!!

We're sorry to hear about your microwave sparking and no longer heating. We want to help offer guidance towards this. We do recommend potentially looking for a replacement as this model is no longer being manufactured, parts as well.
The model we recommend is PCWK22U1WDD, it does come in gray instead of stainless steel. However, it can be paired with a stainless steel trim kit. It will require a new trim kit, which is JX7227SLSS or JX7230SLSS. Looks great, works great.

I was replacing another GE microwave that was 17 years old. It was easy to install in my built-in cabinet. It is very nice looking and works great. My only concern that the clear covering over the touchpad controls on the 1 and add 30 seconds buttons are coming up. Since I have used this only 2 months this should not be happening.

microwave began to spark and flame

Suddenly, during regular usage, the microwave began to spark and flame. Just two seconds after switching it on, we smelled a burning odor and a cracker-bursting sound. This is a fire hazard, and we have two kids in the home, so this poses a safety worry for the entire family. I have taken multiple photos of the burn/flame. Let me know who I can share them with.

This microwave has been through a lot. Several moves, a couple of drops, and is still chugging along. Great for people with kids and/or crazy animals.
