Smoky Kitchen: Arced and scorched

My wife had a large arcing sound while in use and burning smell and smoke in the kitchen.
Luckily she was standing near by it and could shut it off.
Microwave is dead. Luckily my wife and house are not.

Wondering how this product could pass safety tests at UL during development phase.
Also surprised as many complaints as seen on here no serious recall yet. Seems likely a high field dppm fail rate.

Sparking / Fire Hazard after 7 years

Mine is 7 years old, bought in at the end of 2016. My kids saw it sparking when I was out of town last week, jumped on here to look up what could be happening and was shocked to see all the other people with the same problem. I am not one to leave reviews but feel like this is important to chime due to the the seriousness of the hazard.
Will be replacing this ASAP.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

NOT SAFE, large flame

This almost caught our house on fire today. I was lucky I was the one who saw it happening and not my kids. I was surprised to see many others commenting on the exact same issue. An electric arc with a large flame happened where the metal plate is on the inside the microwave. Very surprised the I saw such a large flame. I agree with the other poster that this model should be recalled immediately. Mine is from Sept 2015, so warranty is out of the question. Definitely NOT SAFE!

This microwave was installed in our new home about 2 months ago. What we like most about it is the express feature which enables us to add 1, 2, 3, or 4 minutes with the touch of a button

Awesome microwave

I bought this unit a few months ago and I must say, it's the best microwave I've ever owned. I love that it's big enough inside to put my large cookware in and rotate. Also the fact that it's 1200 watt heating makes cooking so much shorter

I bought this as a replacement because it's predecessor ( GE signature series broke down after only 5 years- and repairing would have cost ore than purchasing a replacement). I preferred the predecessor- better button options- sensor seemed better. Also had a better look

Best microwave oven I have owned

This microwave has the power and versatility to handle any cooking job that you don't want to do in a regular oven. It has a large capacity with rounded back "corners", making for easier cleaning. Excellent options, including express buttons that avoid additional control panel entries and sensor-based timing that avoids guessing. The extra large window gives a clear view of the food as it rotates. Quiet. Outstanding styling. Ours is built-in, and the GE trim is the best-looking that we saw, since it avoids the ugly slots found in most microwave oven trim kits. However, we wish that the control panel could be backlighted, since it is hard to read if the kitchen overhead lights are dimmed.
