Do not buy; if you have one still in operation, have it serviced. Dangerous arching, smoke and caustic smell.

TOTALLY UNRELIABLE

Like others said, this microwave doesn't last long at all. Ours is about 6 years old and it just stopped working. I replaced 2 faulty door switches with the genuine GE parts, which fixed the problem but blew out in 2 weeks after that. I reluctantly replaced 1 faulty switch once more but it only lasted about a week. I knew it wouldn't be worth replacing any more parts for this unit but to look for a complete new replacement. My parents have a microwave that still works great after 30 years, just to give you a reference.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great, until there’s fire

It was great, until it wasn’t. This microwave worked perfectly until the last few months. We noticed it was sparking and having issues, but it caught a small fire last night with nothing inside of it. It’s safe to say, this product was not built to last in an effort to get the consumer to purchase a replacement. Like others, we’ve been using this microwave for just shy of 7 years.
At this point, it’s disappointing that GE knows there is a mass issue with this item, yet they are doing nothing about it. When we look to replace the microwave we may replace our other GE monogram items in fear they will become a hazard at some point also.

Dangerous

This is the 2nd one I’ve had of this microwave and this one sparked and had smoke, but luckily it was contained and didn’t start a fire in my house. It fits perfectly in the cabinetry layout of my kitchen, so that’s why I got a second one a couple years ago after the first one stopped working. I’m frustrated, but glad there was no house fire!

Unfortunately, I am having the same issues as others on this thread. The microwave started sparking and has now stopped heating all together. I need to be able to use the same trim kit. What model should I be looking for? It seems that there is no longer a stainless steel option? Is this correct? I would like it to match my other appliances.
