What's great about it: Easy to use, good deal, nice size, terrific job washing clothes and linens
What's not so great: Initial water fill a little unsettling, not much quieter than previous old machine
Feature-rich washing machine that looks great and does a solid job. The initial water fill is a little startling - it REALLY shoots the water into the machine with great force - and living in a building with 20+ year old pipes, it has me a little concerned (hopefully unnecessarily!). Also, the machine isn't terribly quiet. But that's it for the semi-negatives - it IS very easy to use, looks nice, washes clothes well, and so far no vibration/"walking" of any kind. Counting on LG quality and reliability to keep this puppy cleaning for years and years.

What's great about it: Very Quiet on my concrete floor
What's not so great: Door Gasket Smell
I just had my washer delivered on 2/15/12. That same day while bending down to load clothes into washer I noticed a foul odor. I started feeling very sick from it. It put my nose up to the gray door gasket and found that to be a very strong foul odor. It didn't really smell like other rubber I've smelled, but didn't smell moldy either. I left washer door open for 24 hrs and it still smells. Now I've noticed the stink on my clothes that I'm washing.
I've tried the clean tub with bleach, but the door gasket still stinks. I will call LG for any recommendations, but suspect they will be of little help. I've read a ton of reviews who say they are useless. If so and odor continues I will have to return. I know they is mold and mildew issues with the gaskets, but mine has none of that since it is new. I also wonder if maybe this is already a returned machine and the smell is on the outer side of drum that I can't see.

What's great about it: cleans well , quiet
The machine uses a direct drive motor that is controlled by decent inverter board meaning that speed can be controlled between minimum rotation and maximum rotation speed without chunky speed changes. This make for a really quiet washing action and allows quick starts and stops for load balancing of the wash. The motor noise is very low even at slower speeds, the whirling sound can not be heard easily in our wash area next to our living room. Even at the top 1100 rpm spin speed, the unit is very quiet. It does have an issue balancing very bulky loads at anything above medium speed, but only medium speed is selectable as top when you use the bulky item setting. The unit in most modes will weigh a load using velocity calculations and estimate water needed and after 9 loads seems to work really well. Samsung uses a similar technology that I heard in some review videos by noneducational folks saying it spins cloths at start just to waste power. This is not true. You can calculate a load size by spinning the drum at a known power input for the motor. The processing looks at what the drum should be spinning at when the unit is empty vs the power applied to the motor, since the drum is not empty the drum will spin slower based on the hall effect sensor picks up. Based on what the sensor picks up vs what it should pick up when empty you can actually calculate the estimated weight of the load.
On to wash performance ! The unit does a really good job in the normal cotton mode getting stains out, even dried on blood (had some from a nose bleed). Thus the unit does use enough water for each load (read some complaints that it does not from people that love top loaders). The wash action is nice , it does 6 motions instead of just back and forth like older European front loaders. Spin on the very high takes a bit of balancing on most loads but things come out pretty dry and need very little time in a tumble dryer and most poly blends come out near dry enough just to hang dry in an hour. Wash cycles can take up to 2 hours if you use extra rinses, but given the tub capacity you could do an entire weeks in one load. The unit has a nice quick wash feature for dish towels or small loads like that , can do a load in 20 minutes or less. Use an enzyme bleach with such a load to save time on things that you do not wear.
The soap dispenser works well , you need to use less than it says for washing liquid as it really does not need much for most loads. The unit door seal is easy to clean (which must be done on front loaders). The unit has a novel feature in that the door can be left vented but secured to allow the unit to air dry after use.
Power usage is very very low, checking out our kw usage for the day I think one load at 2 hours only consumes half a kilowatt. This is great as you can run it at peak or non peak times without racking up much of a bill.
In all it is a great unit under $800 so go for it if you need a new washer. Some things to consider is the unit is almost 90kg in weight so it must be installed on a sturdy area to reduce vibrations during spin, the legs will also need to be adjust to level the unit so you might want to make sure you have clearance to do so. The unit will open and close the valves quite a bit during a cycle which is bad for very old pipes. Wash cycles can be very long but wash output will be top notch.

What's great about it: cleans great, energy efficient
What's not so great: limited cycles
I bought this washer and the matching gas dryer about 3 weeks ago. Set up was done by delivery personnel. I had my reservations prior to the purchase because I had never owned a front load machine before. I must say that this machine has gone well passed my expectations. It cleans great, uses less water, and is not noisy at all. The only noise I hear is the initial fill, (sounds like multiple thumps), and when it goes to spin. ( kind of sounds like a jet engine, but not over the top). I really liked the fact that LG has one of the best warranties in the business, in fact that was the deciding factor between this machine and a similarly priced Samsung. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. It may cost more than some top load machines but overall it is worth the extra cost.

What's great about it: Water Plus option, heating coil (hot to cold water ratios), EVERYTHING
What's not so great: Nothing :)
We have a busy household with 2 kids, 2 dogs and a cat. Lots of fur, dirt and sweat! We researched ALL types of machines, read reviews, compared cost vs value/performance and looked at ALL brands for a month before choosing. We bought this matching set for it's good reviews and fair price. We LOVE them and don't regret this choice at all. We had an old, standard washer and dryer before these. People say you either love them or hate them. Others say "follow the manual!" and yet negative nancy's warn you they cause hammer pipe (this is an easy, cheap fix, if it happens although it didn't happen to us) or they have a smell, but your manual CLEARLY tells you to run the "tub clean" option with bleach only and no soaps once a month to avoid this smell. We also leave the door open between loads so the moisture doesn't get stale or musty and this has worked as we have no odor in our machine since we follow these guidelines. I say embrace the differences HE machines offer and stop whining! These work GREAT!! Every article gets wet, every stain and dirt particle gets removed and no stinks of sweat, animals, or perfumes!! We love the "water plus" option for loads with extra-dirty clothes or large/bulky item loads. It also has the heating coil which makes the hot to cold water ratios better than on other machines!! Embrace this one and you won't be sorry!! -

What's not so great: no support
We have a LG WM2140CW Washer that we purchased at Best Buy in Grove City, Ohio on 7-7-2011. This washer is now acting up. We called Best Buy to set up a service appointment. The answer we got was "WE ARE SORRY WE DO NOT HAVE AND SERVICE TECHNICIANS AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA." Now remind you there are 4-5 Best Buy stores within 30 miles of out home.
So I then called LG direct, but guess what they had to say. Yep you guessed it "WE ARE SORRY WE DO NOT HAVE AND SERVICE TECHNICIANS AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA."
Now what do we do?

What's great about it: It seems to wash well.
What's not so great: Loud and vibrating...
We have owned this washer for about 6 months now. I LOVED it when we first got it but as time has went by it seems like it gets louder and louder. It is so loud that I went to check during one of the spin cycles because it sounded like it was going to come off the base. When it was installed we used a level to make sure that was not the problem, and it still shows it as level so I am not sure what the deal is. It sounds like the wash tub is beating on the side of the outer case. Also we tried washing smaller loads to see if that affected it but still loud and vibrating like crazy.

What's great about it: Quiet, Stable, Controls, Water Savings, Value
What's not so great: Capacity / Volume
I debated a lot over which washer to buy. I'm very picky, and if something annoys me, I can't buy it. I wasn't planning to buy LG, but when I saw this unit and compared it to the other similar products, I was sold. I liked that the unit had vibration control, a direct drive motor as opposed to belts, durable and stylish controls, good appearance, and the door open / close seemed secure. I liked that the unit also had a pump filter / strainer which would prevent coins from going into the pump (It happened a lot with an older front loading Maytag). I was debating between this unit and a basic top loader. I'm so glad I got this one because it is quieter, saves a ton of water, gets clothes very dry, and is stable at any speed. I also like the water plus feature. I have to say I got a great deal too! One thing to note is that the automatic water valves are ON or OFF and actuate quickly, so you might get some pipe vibration if in an old house.

What's great about it: easy use, great performance, energy efficient good price
What's not so great: haven't found anything yet
This is my first front load washer and I was a little hesitant to purchase one at first. However, I love this washer. It is very easy to use and gives you many laundering options. Like the fact that settings go back to standard after each load so you don't accidentally leave it on hot wash, for example. Also like that you don't need to select load size- machine adjusts automatically to what and how much you put in it. No problem at all with mold or moldy odor as some people complain of with front load washers. Door has magnet that leaves it just slightly open even when "closed" to allow moisture to dry. I also do recommended bleach cycle wash with no clothes monthly. Use the recommended he detergent and with the measured detergent dispenser, find I am using MUCH less detergent and clothes are coming out very clean. Also enjoy the direct drive motor of this model- no belts to break!

What's great about it: Good price, works well, wash mode is quiet
What's not so great: shakes, bangs, and moves forward during spin cycle
I got this washer during the Columbus day sale and got a great deal on it! It is a really good washer. The only problem I have is that it shakes and moves forward a lot of the time, which the description specifically says it's not supposed to do. The wash cycle is very quiet, it just shakes and bangs and moves forward during the spin cycle, even with a small load. Other than that I don't have any problems. It cleans well and has a lot of great options for cycles and temperature and all that washy stuff.

The washer is great. Like the many options (love quick wash). Very efficient too! Pros: Water bill dropped, many wash options, easy loading tray (detergent/fabric softner) and very, very quiet, reversible door. Cons: Have to bend slightly to load, unless you buy pedestal for $250.
Just make sure it sits on even ground and level it using the built-in leveling legs, because if not it will make a lot of noise as it spins at very high velocity. Hope this reviews helps you out as they did for me and led to my purchase, don't regret it!

What's not so great: The machine was not leveled properly.
My wife and I are homeowners and as a gift to each other we decided to get a new washing machine. After doing some research we decided on this unit. We have owned the unit for three weeks and have had a geek squad service tech to our home three times. The washing machine continues to vibrate and rock back and forth. The geek squad service tech-Scott was completely rude, failed to level the washing machine (which was just a matter of adjusting the feet) and lied to management about his conduct. After speaking with management we still feel very frustrated by the situation. If customer service is important to you I would think twice about Coralville, IA best buy.

What's great about it: Most everything
What's not so great: I would like it to drain faster at the bottom drain hose when cleaning/checking the filter.
I've owned this washer for several months now and it is everything that it and others claim it to be. Easy to use, does a great job cleaning, saves significantly on water, is quiet, handles very large loads, plays a little tune and has tons of options. A quick and easy wipe down (inside the glass door, the rubber gasket and the detergent compartment) after use and leaving the door ajar for a while (I leave it for about 24 hours) keeps the machine fresh and dry between washes. Checked by my water meter it uses 50 to 75 percent less water per load depending on the size of the load and wash options chosen, i.e. extra water option would of course use a little more water.
