Toner use and quality of printing is fine. BUT: watch for two major problems. The manual feed allows one sheet at a time -- and despite great care in setting feed guides and placing the paper straight, the printer pulls the sheet unevenly about 90% of the time, resulting in a skewed image. The feed guides are simply too short.
Secondly, the cooling fan will run for up to 15 minutes. If the printer is near your workstation, the noise is significant and annoying.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Owned for two months now

Great value for the price, the WiFi connection makes the whole family happy with their laptops and smartphones. Easy to set up, quiet enough, fast. I think I paid for it in inkjet savings in two months. I found that I rarely use color printing, so this is an incredible savings. Toner will cost me in one year what I pay for ink in two months.
I like to print out my envelopes and this does well as long as you remember to lower two levers when opening the back flap for flat printing else I would give this 5 stars.

Wasted Sunday trying to install.

If you are looking for a WiFi printer that is easy to install, forget this one. I wasted 8 hours on a Sunday trying every method of installation in the user guide, nothing worked. I've been using and networking computers since the first IBM was plunked on a desktop about 30 years ago. I ended up taking it back to the store and buying another brand which installed in 15 minutes! Don't bother trying to call Brother on the weekend for assistance, they don't answer their phone. This was an all around expensive waste of time, money and personal energy. I will never buy another Brother product again.

I purchased the HL-2270DW as a second printer to perform mass mailings, such as statements and labels. So far this printer has exceeded my expectations.

Rugged Machine

I bought this printer to do one thing - print Bing maps on two sides of the paper. Of course it does that flawlessly! But I also haul it in al old suitcase about 20 miles back and forth every week. Eventhough it is all plastic, it just keeps on running. And with the wi-fi connection it is so easy just to use it for anything where I don't need color. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Excellent printer

Have owend it for about 2 months. Easy install on a wired network. Prints fast with very clear text and graphics. Moderate use level, and have had no paper jams or other issues. Small footprint and unobtusive design fits well in the office or home. Would highly recommend.

Great Machine, Installation Can Be a Bit Tricky

Purchased within the last month, machine is being used in a home environment. My network required an assigned ip address. The installation, on the second try, assigned an ip address but couldn't finish. Subsequent installation attempts on two different machines couldn't didn't "see" the ip address. As a result, installation took hours instead of minutes. Part of this could be that my machines are running older OSes, Win2K and WinXP.
Since installation, machine has run fine. The snap down tabs when printing envelopes are inconvenient in a confined work space, however.
I would recommend this to a friend!

We do like this printer. It was easy to set up for wireless printing. It is very fast and duplex is great. A great buy at a great price. We bought it to cut down on printing expense. We have MFC 490CW which we also like but find the inkjet replacements expensive.
