Overall, I like it.

I'm very impressed with this little printer. It is very fast, and has good quality print.
I docked it one star because I find the wireless setup somewhat confusing. I have a LAN in my house with several computers. The setup procedure is first to connect the printer via USB or ENet to configure it, and then connect to it wirelessly. This procedure worked fine on the first computer. But on subsequent computers, instead of just installing the drivers, I kept getting stuck in trying to configure the printer again.
I think Brother needs to either change the way the printer is configured, or make adding subsequent print drivers to other computers on your LAN a lot more clear than it currently is.
I have many years of computing and networking experience, so it's not like I'm a novice in trying to get this to work. It's just needlessly confusing.
Once installed, however, the printer works great.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Printer!

I purchased this printer as a back-up to my large MFC-8480DN which I love! My experience with Brother's products has been a very satisfactory one. The products deliver exactly what they claim, and I have not had any problems at all. We hooked up this new printer as a second to my desk top and will be hooking it to my laptop too. It has been a great addition, and I'm very happy I made this choice. As far as the set up, I'm not a mechanical person, and I was able to do the set up. One thing I love about Brothers' instructions, is that they write everything out in extremely simple terms so everyone can understand what to do. I don't think I've ever seen any other set of directions so well put together as theirs. This is truly a compliment to Brothers!!!!

Just what I was looking for

My wife and I have 3 computers in the house and previously we were sharing the printer attached to one of the computers. Now, we can print without worrying about whether the other computer is on. The other feature that sold me was duplex. I really like being able to print on both sides of the paper automatically. The only change I would make would be to make auto duplex the default rather than having to configure it on each computer. Wireless network setup worked very well for the first computer (using a USB cable to configure). However, on the other two computers, the printer showed up twice. If that happens to you, ignore the first entry (with http:) and choose the second entry. You can then use the Windows Update option to select the printer driver directly from the internet, rather than using the CD. Brother tech support couldn't tell me why the printer was showing up twice so I just experimented and found out the second entry worked. The first entry might have worked if I had already installed the printer driver but I didn't bother to test that theory.

This printer is a workhorse - it is quiet, well made, has a reasonable PPM, and has excellent print quality. It has a full compliment of network features plus bonjour for auto-discovery. The admin UI is well thought out. For the price it is a fantastic value.

Great Small Office Printer

We bought this to replace our trusted HL-2170W when it died after 20k+ pages. This one was easy to get running on our wireless network and it prints beautifully. We run both Macs and PCs-no problems with drivers (even under Lion). Haven't tried the duplex feature yet. You guys make the best and best-priced small office printers, by far. Thanks!
