I was looking forward to this film. Been a fan of Russell's for over 10 years.
You can see Gladiator in this film. A couple of similar scenes. The 5th teaming up of Russell & Ridley.
3 Oscar winners with Russell, Cate and…..where did they dig up William Hurt? His career was over in the 1980’s & he NEVER deserved his Oscar when it SHOULD have went to Harrison for "Witness".
It is a good film BUT we knew from the publicity press the film would NOT follow normal story lines for the Robin Hood character. I found the storyline to get confusing.
Spoiler……Russell & Cate do NOT meet until an hour into the story.
Was a long film. Scenes like when we meet the John character with another woman other than his wife were unnecessary.
Cheap DVD,. No chapter search list. NO extras on it. There was an HBO special NOT HERE. A special on the History Channel NOT HERE.
Poor, cheap DVD. Good film but confusing & over long.

Since I was a child, I watched several version of the Robin-hood. I felt this is the closest one to the original Robin-Hood. It got my son attention which he has never seen the original Robin-Hood. I purchase it because I watch the movie over and over again. I also while in my travels I can watch it from my laptop which is a great feature.

I am so disgusted with this purchase! This is the third DVD of Robin Hood that I have purchased. They ALL have had several places where the movie just pauses. THE RECORDING WAS NOT CORRECTLY RECORDED-OBVIOUSLY! I am sure that you have had other complaints. I don't even want to do business with Best Buy anymore!

As far as blu-ray transfers go, this movie is stock. I'm not writing about the quality of the blu-ray though. I'm just giving my opinion of the movie. Ridley Scott as we all know cannot make a movie in under 2 and a half hours. I'm not complaining about his previous movies like Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, or Kingdom Of Heaven; I love all of those. However, this film utilized confusing character development and just wasn't paramount in his directing career or Russel Crowe's for that matter. Robin Longstride's painful past was briefly run through and I just didn't care much about him or his path in the story. Russel Crowe had his witty moments but nothing of the caliber that his previous performances have delivered. He didn't have the epic persona of Maximus, William Wallace, or Leonidas. For an outlaw that did a lot of damage, it just seemed like it came easy for him. We all felt for Maximus, when his family was murdered by the terrible usurper to the throne of Rome. We feared and felt the suspense of the men trapped in Mogadishu. We felt the ferocity of the 300 spartans battling the massive Persian army. In the end I was scratching my head as Robin Hood just seemed to have the usual format for productions of this size with little originality. Format: beginning battle, some drama, battle, travel, battle, travel, suspense, battle, drama, and battle some more. The battles were well done, with brutal scenes of arrows piercing soldier's faces and fire scorching them to the ground, which is always a cathartic experience for us action fans, but that was about it. It seems like Ridley was on autopilot for this one. I don't recommend buying it, wish I would've rented it.
What's great about it: Brutal uncompromising battle scenes
What's not so great: Lack of momentum, sporadic development
