This is the most poorly designed refrigerator we have EVER owned!
After buying it (with a 3 year service warranty) we have had the compressor replaced twice, the motor replaced twice, and the main circuit board replaced once.
Finally we gave up, called it the piece of garbage it was and asked for a refund due to the implied warranty being violated due to a design flaw.
LG makes great TV's, but they need to rethink major appliances like refrigerators before we'll buy anything like this again!
Pros: $2000 paper weight
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Just the Refrigerator we were hoping for!

After much researching, we decided on this refrigerator for our kitchen remodel. We have owned top freezer, bottom freezer and side by side. Have also owned ice maker and water in the door, but decided on this LG product because it was perfect....no water/ice in the door; has bottom freezer and is cabinet depth. We are very pleased aesthetically and mechanically. Well done LG!
Pros: Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings

Not your grandma's refrigerator

Overall, this product is such a step up from the older refrigerators I've used it's just amazing. Every time I open the door and look inside, I have to marvel. I expect to enjoy using this appliance for a long time. I have a couple of quibbles but I'm still very pleased having made the purchase.
The door caddies are not as easy to use as they might appear. They are 3-1/2 inches tall and that keeps things from falling out...but it also means that you have to lift things up and over. The clearance from one to another only looks generous when they are empty. Tall items take some maneuvering. You can store an unopened bottle of wine in the door, but a partial bottle with stopper or cork sticking up won't fit. The door caddies cannot be immersed in water to clean them -- water will get inside the left & right ends which are combo clear plastic and opaque white. They would trap water and soap residue.
With regard to positioning of door caddies, there are too few options for adjusting up and down. Back to the wine bottle thing -- if only I could get one more inch of clearance it would work.
I like the slide-out shelves and wanted to move one side down a notch to make room for taller things. However, when I emptied and removed one shelf, suddenly the other shelf (which was loaded with food) shifted sideways and appeared unstable...perhaps the pair of sliding shelves must be on the same level to support each other? I had trouble getting the shelf back in place so haven't tried it again but at some future time I'll call customer service for tips on how to move them.
The fruit & vegetable bins are great, as well as the narrow middle drawer -- that's where an open wine bottle usually ends up. The deli drawer is very useful. I love the lights being up front where they easily illuminate all the way into the back.
The freezer section is constructed exactly the way I wanted with a generous bottom drawer that is easily accessible. The top slide-out shelf is quite handy for small items and I like the little tip-out shelf on the door. By choice my ice maker is disabled so I have no comment about that feature.
My last and final quibble is that the front is not magnetic so I can't post reminder notices or photos or cartoons. On the other hand, it looks nice and tidy without the bulletin board look. This appliance dresses up my kitchen with its sleek design. The handles provide a solid grip and when the door closes with a definite "whumph" I KNOW it is sealed.
The refrigerator has been installed for approximately 60 days. Performance has been satisfactory in every way.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Quality

Pretty Frig
on February 19, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought my French Door Counter Depth Frig for my small kitchen over a year ago. I was looking for clean lines and sturdier quality which this has compared to other brands. Beautiful exterior. Naturally it's small inside given counter-depth. Crispers are not deep enough for celery. I'd suggest eliminating small middle drawer to provide two wider drawers (altho this might require opening both doors to use the drawers). Like other brands, to use full-width drawer requires opening both French doors. Pull-out shelves aren't necessary to me in a counter-depth frig (not deep enough) and could be eliminated to provide a little more shelf height for taller items so they don't have to be tipped to get on the shelf.Top freezer drawer only opens about half-way and therefore, is harder to use. Ice cube storage bin has a notched hole at the rear and if too full, ice cubes fall through the hole to the bottom of the freezer and sometimes out onto my hardwood floor, so I have to watch to avoid melting ice cubes on floor. Performance has been very good so far and compressor runs quietly and doesn't give off much heat..

disappointing

The main problem with this unit is the French doors. If you close them together, they can lock together an inch away from the frame, leaving a gap for the cold air to escape. The light goes out so the alarm does not come on. Also each door has a resistance towards the end of its travel which requires an extra push to close. On several occasions, we have inadvertently left a door ajar, thinking it had closed. If you are not around when the alarm goes off, it stays open.
The temperature control has no feedback so there is no way to indicate the actual temperature of the fridge or freezer section. I don't know if the temperature of the freezer is what I set it to be at 0F or 5 degrees warmer.

Refrigerator/freezer odor
on August 27, 2018

I agree with an earlier review, the ice smells and tastes terrible. I am going to stop using the automatic ice maker. I also think the overall refrigerator/freezer has an odor, even though I clean it and put baking soda boxes in both areas. Anyone else having this issue or know of a solution?

crisper drawer

The full width crisper drawer is not practical as bouth doors must be open to open the drawer. A split drawer would be more efficent.
Cons: Difficult to use

Quietest refrigerator I have ever owned
on April 12, 2014

This refrigerator is the quietest refrigerator I have ever owned. It is one of few refrigerators that would fit into the cabinet space I have and will come through the house with minor difficulty. It maintains a very steady temperature. The freezer has sufficient capacity but is more like a chest freezer than a shelf freezer when retrieving items. There is a slide out drawer in the freezer which is very convenient. There is ample space in the refrigerator section. However, the height of the shelves will not accomodate a liter bottle of soda unless it is stored in the door. The drawers in the refrigerator section are acceptable but the large refrigerator width bottom drawer is a bit inconvenient in that you have to open both doors to get at this drawer. I would have much preferred a vertical stack of drawers on the right side of the refrigerator. I would also have preferred at least one deeper drawer instead of the wide bottom drawer. But I have come to an accomodation with the features.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, Quality
