Excellent Picture Quality

This camera takes excellent pictures in low light with a very nice zoom optical on it but it is kinda bulky to put in a purse. It has very nice auto features for beginners to where you can just take it right out of the box and use it without ever reading the manual. This camera uses 2 AA batteries and if you use it with alkaline batteries it sucks it up like is nobody's business. But if you use it with the ultimate lithium batteries it seems to be fine.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Heavy/Bulky

Excellent Compact Digital Camera
on November 14, 2010

This is a great compact digital camera that can act as a point and shoot for beginners or give more advanced photographers a great deal of creative control.
Takes excellent quality photos and the noise control is fantastic at ISO400 and below. ISO 800 is useable for sharing on the internet or making smaller prints.
I love the burst mode, though rated at about .9 per second, you can take as many shots as you want and the camera keeps up, there is no long lag as with many compact / point and shoot cameras as you wait for the buffer to continue writing.
You will want to use either lithium or NiMH rechargeable AA batteries as this camera will go through standard alkaline batteries quickly.
Pros: high quality images, fast write times in burst mode, nice noise reduction, excellent creative controls, good value
Cons: alkaline battery "hog"

Great Camera

I bought this camera as a gif for myself and I am glad I did. The LCD screen is very clear, the camera is very easy to operate, the instructions are easy to read and the price is right. The quality of the pictures are excellent and it has a really good zoom. I bought a set of rechargeable batteries and they have lasted a long time. This is definately worth buying.

I've been a photographer for 25+ years. The first digital camera I had was a Conan PowerShot A540. It is a good camera for someone wanting a digital, but still learning. Now I have the SX130 IS, it is like taking picture with a manual SLR. I love all the features that let me control all my shots. and I even have the control that I would have in the darkroom. I like that I can take AUTO shots of events and people when we're having fun and I can take more thoughtful shots.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

My First serious camera

This is definitely a great deal for the money at the $200 vicinity. It’s easy to use when you want it to be and has all the advanced controls for when you want them. The flash will run down a typically AA battery quickly, but apparently using the optional battery that is sold separately remedies the problem. I’m glad that any AA batteries get you going again. Sometimes, it feels like the computer inside isn’t quite as fast as one would hope after snapping a photo, but it certainly makes this up in features. It takes great pictures in low lighting. I took handheld pictures of a rock concert from across the arena, and the pictures turned out great. People tend to look their best with this camera. I highly recommend it for anyone dabbling with advanced features and wants to take sharp, beautiful pictures every time.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Short battery life

Overall Good/Nice camera
on January 2, 2011

This is my first really moderately advanced camera. It's not for a real beginner, but maybe not enough for the pro. It is a good lightweight, portable, carry-in-you-pocket camera. If you take a little time and figure out the settings (I find the (P) Program mode works the best) it will take very nice photos. I also find that if you have the flash up all the time and set it to AutoFlash setting, It will consistently take good photos.
Battery life is moderate with rechargeable batteries. Write speed is decent depending on what SD card you are using, but it is considerably slower when using the flash.
I really LOVE the options of being able to take photos in different formats, depending on what you intend to do with the prints. You can set it to take photos in HD for High Quality prints of different sizes or for easy emailing. The large screen is very nice also....just buy some screen protectors.
All in all I'm satisfied with this camera. I think it will be a very good "stepping stone" to a new Canon SLR.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu

Moved up to this camera from the Powershot A410 just 2 days before a 12-day tour of the National Parks and Canyons of the American West. Downloaded the operating info, but did not get to read it prior to the trip, so used my previous experience and a little guesswork to get through the trip. As a point-and-shoot, it is terrific, especially with the easy-to-use zoom and macro capabilities. I like the fact that the flash stays off until you call for it--only used it a couple of times during the entire trip. Picture quality is great, as well--noticeably improved compared to the A410, which we also had and used for comparison. Did not even know about the sound feature until I experimented with movies of geysers and bubbling cauldrons at Yellowstone. Once again, I am technologically challenged and outclassed by my equipment. One shortcoming: the lack of a viewfinder makes it difficult to frame some shots in bright light. Otherwise, size and capability of this camera are tremendous.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: no viewfinder
