A Really Good Camera
on May 9, 2011

I purchased this camera a couple of days ago and had no problem with quickly figuring out how to use it. I've already used it a couple of times now and I'm impressed with the images it creates, and was very impressed with them once I'd uploaded them to my computer. It is an easy camera to learn how to use and creates great images in addition, and it makes a fine addition to my bicycle pannier. I was initially attracted by the sales promotion but the size, weight and design were also factors in my purchase. Each of them are exactly what I want and it's almost as if the engineer's at Canon had once again read my mind and measured my hands to determine the case (happened once before with the Elan 7 years ago which was obviously a much larger camera body).
As for the "Pro's" I cannot at this time comment on the low-light performance, battery life or the durability.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

GREAT value

I haven't used this camera for very long, but I can tell you that it's really good. The image quality blows away cameras with a similar price tag or zoom range. The ONLY problems are the battery life and the fact that the zoom is slow to extend in video mode. Use lithium or NiMH batteries. Other than that, this is a great camera.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, slow zoom in video mode

AA Battery eater

If I didn't have to carry tons of extra AA batteries with me, I might like this camera. It goes through them fast. If I had known this would be the case, I would have looked for a camera with easily rechargeable ion batteries, like my other camera. It seems like a decent camera, and I think another Canon would be better. The long time it takes to wait for the flash to build up is probably due to the high consumption of battery energy. I just will not buy another that uses AA batteries.
Pros: has a nice feel to it nice pictures
Cons: aa batteries

I use the camera almost exclusively for my business of inspecting houses. I also do on occasion use it for leisure, shooting family, outdoors / nature photos. I have bought several camera over the years of all different brands in the same price range. The Canon has out performed all of them considerably. I am VERY hard on cameras, taking several hundred photos a day in all types of whether and conditions. So far the Canon is still going strong after a year and tens of thousands of photos. It's an all around great camera and a super value. I highly recommend the SX -130.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not happy
on October 30, 2010

I have owned four other Canon cameras and I was happy with them. This particular camera is nice for pictures and outdoor HD videos. But I purchased it because of the 12x optical zoom for indoor sporting events that I was planning to videotape. Indoor video quality is terrible; camera keeps refocusing on its own every four five seconds even on the tripod. I called Canon and they advised to disable auto stabilizer that did not make it any better. I exchanged this camera for a new one and the same thing continued. Eventually I had to bring it back to get my money back. This is great camera for pictures and outdoor video, junk for indoor video.
Pros: pictures and outdoor videos
Cons: indoor video is a joke.

I Love This Camera!

This is the camera I've been looking for. My abilities with a digital camera are limited--but I do like to have some flexibility on how much zooming capability I have. The camera I had before was a PowerShot SX100IS and it was great but I couldn't zoom in enough. The SX130 IS gives me the zooming capability I was looking for. I love it!!
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD
I would recommend this to a friend!
