Great upgrade

I have had my 60D for 3 weeks now and it is a great camera. I like the controls and can navigate the menu items with no problem. The "Q" button is very handy and makes sense navigating the camera settings. To the former 50D owners, forget the joystick. You don't need it on the 60D. This camera is an upgrade for me from the wonderful Rebel T3i my wife bought me for Christmas. My son needed a better camera to video my grandson so I upgraded myself and glad I did.
The only down side I have found so far is the 18-135 lens that came in the kit. The lens quality just doesn't compare to the quality of the 60D body construction. The depth of field preview button is in an awkward position but I seldom use it anyway so I don't care.
I have taken over 200 pictures so far with this camera and my 55-250 Canon lens and been very happy with both. This body is also a good compliment to my Canon 60mm Macro lens. Pictures come out bright and crisp. Pictures in color and monochrome show a lot of detail. If I get a bad picture it is generally my fault.
The Canon 60D camera is a great value for the money and I'm glad I decided to buy it when I did.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, upper lcd panel
Cons: 18-135 kit lens

very happy with this!

Just recently bought the refurb'd 60D. Already extremely happy with the purchase. I'm upgrading from a T3i. Everything from how the camera feels to image quality is better. I know both cameras have the same sensor, but the 60D images are still better than the Rebel's.
First, the camera fills my hand better and feels more balanced.
Second, I love the more choices for ISO selection.
Third, even though there are still only 9 focus points, they are all cross type points on the 60D.
Fourth, looking through the pentaprism viewfinder is so much nicer than on the Rebel, and the focus points are a lot more visible. Also, when I preview a picture on the LCD it highlights which focus point I used.
Last, and this may sound weird, but the shutter sound on the Rebel just sounded kind of cheap and "chirpy". I really like the way the 60D sounds and it also has quiet mode as well for sensitive situations.

Not a 7D but not bad

I have owned all of the XXDs but decided to downsize from the 50D last year and bought a T2i. The T2i, although a good camera, was just too small for me to grip comfortably so I upsized to the 60D. It really is a good compromise between the T2i and 7D. Although lighter and smaller than the 7D it is large enough to handle well and is fully featured. The menu structure makes more sense to me than the menus on the T2i. At 63 (and 6' 5") I'm not as flexible as I once was and the fully articulated LCD allows me to shoot at low angles much more easily. The view finder is large and bright (I use an EP-EX15 with my glasses) and the lighter weight (lighter than the 7D) allows me to carry it all day comfortably. With the 18 megapixel sensor you get professional quality images at a reasonable price. This camera is true Canon quality for the advanced amateur and gives the photographer a professional camera feel for less $. I converted to Canon after 20 years with other brands starting with the EOS Elan 7NE. I have owned all of the XXD models and Canon never disappoints when it comes to producing quality images.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, good build quality
Cons: noisy, joystick is gone

A Quality Camera

I have used this camera for about a year, and taken about 5700 shots in a variety of places, from Costa Rica and Yellowstone NP to Washington DC and beyond. I have used it with 7 or 8 lenses, from 11 mm to 500 mm. I love the size, and the way it feels in hand. It is moderately easy to use, but I am still learning and not at all bored with it. The shutter is a bit noisy, but less so than the Rebel. I like the exposure flexibility--save in RAW or jpeg or both simultaneously, and in several sizes. I like the layout of controls on the back, and the quick control buttons on the top make it easy to change the ISO or shooting mode. The menus available to control the exposure and the camera are extensive and have kept me learning, which is the way I like it. The battery lasts quite a long time, particularly if you use mostly the viewfinder, not the LCD. The video is easy to use. The leveling feature is very nice. The Image quality is top notch (same as the 7D)--and matched with a good lens, it is a lot of fun to use. I love the fact that there are nearly a kabillion lenses and accessories that are available for Canon DSLRs--a remote shutter release, both wired and wireless, are particular favorites of mine. Finally, the included software, particularly the DPP, is really nice and makes it easy to shoot in RAW and take creative control of the post processing--and you can use it to bridge to Photoshop, if you wish. All in all a solid package, reasonably priced and a good step up from the Rebel.
Pros: flexible, features, image quality, size
Cons: no focus microadjust

Great For Astronomy

The first Canon DSLR I bought was a EOS 400D and I must confess I have been very pleased with it until I took up Astronomy. The difficulty I had was focusing on stars & constellations through the viewfinder even when using an angled 1X3 Angled view finder. With the EOS 60D just pull out the LCD and press the magnify button and M-focus job done.
My only gripe is the on/off lever which is awkward to turn on & off but then again, I have fat fingers.
The EOS 60D is an Excellent camera at a good price especially if you shop around.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: awkward to turn on & off

This is my first DRSL! As I finally had the money to get one, I decided on this among other reasons because most of the people I know that have dslr's have a Canon and they are all very happy with their camera products. I also could not be happier. I got it in Nov. 2010 and at that time most of the reviews complaint about the "plastic" built... don't even pay attention to those reviews. It is a solid camera and I ever since I got it I can not stop playing with it because you can do so much with it. So if you are like me, that are scared to get something because you've never had a dslr before, know that I was in your shoes back in November and if I had to do it again I would get this camera again. The screen is fantastic and it has proven to be helpful for me already as I've gotten shots on angles that I could not have gotten without the "swiveling screen". The kit lens is not a fancy lens but the pictures do come out great and I find it to be a very user friendly walk around lens. I've added other lenses already and can't wait to keep taking pictures. Good luck shopping and whatever you get I hope you like it as much as I like my camera.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use

60d, pro camera packed in half the cost.

I have been using 5d mk 2s and 7ds for over a year now, and i bought a 60d to add to my personal armory of cameras. I was amazed at the price, and I would say, it is better that the 7d. the images are sharper, and look alot better. post production is a breeze. if i am out on a shoot, and have a moment of downtime, i can edit the raw images quickly and have a majority of a shoot done before i get home. The 7d does have 60fps video shooting, which is great, and a faster buffer rate. The 60d is an amazing camera, a great buy, and you get proofessional quality with half the cost. The flip screen has come in handy on alot of shoots, allowing me to get angles that other photogs couldnt get. I am surprised that the 5d mk2 and mk3's do not have the tilt-screen. overal, amazing camera. if you are looking to upgrade an older camera, this is the one for you. having used both the 7d and 60d, 60d is a better buy, much sharper, and cleans up nicer.
***my main camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use

The right one

Like the title says it was the right choice for me. I am moving up from the T1i and wanted a camera with higher image quality, better handling of higher iso and a price tag that wasn't going to break the bank. After reading tons of reviews I decided on the 60d instead of the 7d and I couldn't be happier. As a photo hobbyist I couldn't justify the price tag of the 7d but wanted a lot of what it offered and I got it with the 60d, My only dislike is the articulating screen and no sensor to turn the screen off when you put your eye to the viewfinder.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, fast shutter
Cons: articulating screen, no sensor to turn screen off when eyeing through v
