The kit lens needs help
on February 17, 2011

My 60D came with the 18-135mm kit lens. Unfortunately, I took my camera back twice, thinking that there was an issue with the camera.
The issue is actually with the lens. The tech at where I bought it stated that the problem looked like a decentering issue. Unfortunately, I can't afford any secondary lenses, so I'm stuck with a poor lens until I can afford another one. I could send the lens in, but then I wouldn't be able to take any photos.
No-win situation.
.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: poor kit lens 18-135mm
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was forced to purchase this after my 50D broke and by that time, that model was discontinued. My biggest gripe witht he 60D is the mirror shake. I do a lot of macro where the detail and sharpness really count and more often than not, the image is not crisp from the mirror vibration. It's on a tripod and I use a remote shutter release. There should be no blur.
It's terrible in low light situations, producing very noisy images. I also don't really know why Canon is such a big fan of the HD video. Unless you're doing interviews where the subject is stationary, it's pretty impossible to take usable video on this because while there is autofocus, it is not constant and is very slow. Canon, you should just stick to pictures. If someone wants video, they'll buy a camera specifically made for it.
Despite the gripes, I have been able to get some pretty decent pictures. The movable screen has helped in a few situations where I needed to put the camera over my head and needed to compose my shot or if I was on the ground taking a picture of a flower at an upward angle and couldn't look through the viewfinder.
Overall, I'm disappointed with the performance of it. This camera definitely wasn't worth what I paid for it. I can't wait until I can afford the 5D Mark III.

Great Purchase

I got my 60D about three weeks ago and have taken over 200 pictures. I have never been happy with my XSi. I am ecstatic about the results with the 60D. Most pictures have required no editing and others very little. I have two A-1's with plastic bodies. They have been banged around for years and there have been no problems. The plastic body is not a concern to me. I like the monitor and have used it a couple of times. It's a great protection for the screen when the camera is not being used. My opinion here is that the DIGIC 4 processor is so much better than that DIGIC in the XSi that this is what makes the difference. I am using the camera just as it came out of the box but have upped the contrast and saturation one level. I was about to go back to film and probably would have if I did not have a G10 with DIGIC 4. I was about to buy the XTI. I am glad I went with the 60D.
Pros: great images, ease of use, fits my have well narrow hand long fingers, feels good in my hands, i like the adjustable screen
Cons: none for me

HDSLR

I chose the 60D over the 7D as my first HDSLR video camera because of the articulated screen. I'm particularly impressed by the image quality, particularly when using f/1.4-2 lenses. It's taken me a few days to get used to the Menu adjustments in Manual mode, but they are logical and clear with practice. The plastic body doesn't worry me (it's Polycarbonate I think) as I don't plan to take it down the Amazon and I guess it's lighter then alternatives. I'll continue to use my Canon AF-X1 for quick off the mark documentary/news shoots; the 60D is more suitable for shoots where there's time to set up carefully, adjust lighting, etc.
I'm disappointed that the E1 plugin for Final Cut Pro is not available (yet?) For professional use this is pretty essential.
Pros: image quality
Cons: lacks e1 plugin

Had the camera since november of 2010! the rubber grips are pealing off, they have spanded and the 2 sided tape that they use is not of good quality! Pop up flash stop working the third day of use, now it only makes a noise when selected and it wont pop up. The dial wheel next to the shutter realese does not react quickly and sometimes doesnt even react at all and finally my camera just started turning off by itself when i turn it on! something wrong with the on and off bottom. Please canon read this and contact me! I love canon products but this one just broke my heart!
Pros: Quick Start-up time, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Poor build quality

It produces a sharp colorful image without effort I dont know what or how cannon done it but I love the fact that all my L lens are perfect with this camera Could not say that with the 50d 5dII the 7D is better havent had to go to the MA but with the 60d my keeper rate has doubled YES Doubled Right out of the box and if it takes you 8 burst per second to get a photo your not set up right or something Get all mine in about 3 Shots!! Its just a great camera for the money and if you think you have to spend 5Gs to get good results u dont This is it !!
Its not what you put into a camera that counts but what you get out of it!!! Its Just something that works for Me and if it dot work for you sorry. SIXTYDEE Works 4 ME!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, batter life excellent!!!!
Cons: none

60d and 24-105mm
on January 1, 2011

I just purchased the 60d and the Canon L series 24mm-105mm lens. My first shots were indoors and all using the flash. The camera worked great but all of the pictures had a dark semi-circle in the middle of the bottom of the image. After doing some experiments the problem was clearly the lens blocking the built-in flash on the 60d. Removing the lens hood helped but the shadow was still there.
Comparing the 60d flash to my other Canon SLRs the 60d flash looks like it is mounted lower, leading to the problem. With problems this bad on a mid-range zoom I don't think that many people will be happy with this lens/body combination.
Pros: looks good on paper
Cons: flash with 24mm-105mm doesn't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
