Fantastic camera

I personally enjoy the physical body of this Canon camera over the other cameras I own. And the adjustable display screen is also an extremely useful tool to have while filming or using a a tripod. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this Canon product so far!

Great Camera
on February 12, 2011

Very suprised by the quality of the photos at iso 3200, with the 18-135 kit lens. I have a 40d and use a 24-105L resulting in excellent photos, but only up to iso 400, and camera is not good in low light. The 60d is very good in low light, no flash and at high iso, up to 3200. Canon has created a winner with the 60d.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: none

Good DSLR for Advanced Amateurs
on February 26, 2011

i bought this camera three months ago together with the EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. I haven't had any DSLR before, just a Canon PowerShot S90 (good camera too!). I already used my S90 on M, so i directly set my 60D to M too.
i have used this camera mostly for nature/landscape photos but also did some indoor photography with it. i intend to use this camera on my travel.
the camera is easy to use and if you're already used to the handling of other canon cameras you'll get used to it very fast.
the camera produces very good image quality (at least if you're using a good lens). i have taken some awesome pictures with it. I try to always stay on ISO 100, but even if i go up with it, the image quality stays very good.
the vary-angle display is a very nice addition which has been missing from canon-cameras for too long! i hope that it'll find it's way to all other new (higher-level) canon DSLRs. though i'm only using this display to review my pictures i really like it that i don't have my nose on the display but can just throw a short gaze to the left to see the picture.
also the battery life is amazing, i can take up to 800-1000 pictures (without internal flash / with external flash) with it before i have to recharge it!
what surprised/disappointed me was, that i have several images where the focus was a bit off which makes a very good image look not so good. i'm not sure whether it's a problem from the lens or from the camera, it only happened at a weekend when i was out at the sea and it was pretty cold. i'll ask the shop about it.
i have now added a Speedlite 850EX II to my equipment as the built in flash always gave me a shadow from my lens on my pictures (the flash isn't high enough) and the flash isn't too strong. I'm very happy with that setup now, it gave me some nice outdoor shots (people in front of a dark sky at the sea).
i plan to get a better lens for low-light situations too, maybe a EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM or a EF 35mm f/1.4L USM (saddly there's no IS edition of either of them).
one last word about the new mode-dial: that push-button is nice, it keeps the dial on place (most of the times...). but why isn't it possible, that i can do a whole turn-around? the dial is full of those amateur-modes, so if i want to go from M to video i have to turn it by ~300°. canon, please do this better with the next generation of cameras!
i can definitely recommend this camera to anyone who wants to get his hands on a DSLR and wants to do some serious photography.
i'm looking forward to a 5D Mark III with the vary-angle display and the FullHD video-functionality from the 60D and a Dual (or maybe Quad?) Digic V!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: price

Very good upgrade
on March 15, 2011

Recently upgraded from S2IS, S5IS, SX20 and SX30 (still have all of them), for better quality landscape pictures. 60D came with 18-135 lens and I purchased a 100-400 L series. First pictures with L lens at 400 mm were disappointing but it turned out the old tripod is not steady enough. After correcting that, images are crisp and clear. The reason for selecting the 60D is the vari-angle screen which I am used to- could not live without it once you get used to it. This camera fits in my hand perfectly and grip is amazing. As far as the camera body made of non-metal is not a big deal. Would not want to go back to cars all made from metal either. Only feature that was a bit disappointing is I cannot display the histogram and the artificial horizon on the screen at the same time. Maybe in the next firmware release?
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

EOS 60D

I purchased the 60D as an addition to my 40D. I wanted to have one camera specifically for my telephoto lens so I did not have to keep switching the lenses around and risk dropping or getting dust in camera. I did not realize how many advancements were made from the 40D to the 60D. I thought they'd be almost identical. But wow, was I in for a shock. Not only have they increased the pix quality but also added some nice features like the LCD flips out and is adjustable, love that, and it seems to me to be quieter and faster. I am still learning all the new features and have yet to play with the video playback feature. So far am loving this new investment and have no regrets, wish I could afford to get one more to replace the 40D that has my telephoto lens on it.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I have used many DSLRs and the 60D does a great job the focus speed is very fast. The white balance is also as good as more expensive cameras. The feel and weight also makes you feel as if you are carrying a 2000 dollar camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, easy to use
