Lever to hold toast down no longer works. Only 6 months old.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lever broke after four years

We purchased this toaster because it seemed well made. It worked for four years but the lever broke recently. It no longer stays down, so it is essentially useless. Although four years seem to be a long time but our previous toaster which is much cheaper lasted for more than 10 years. Maybe they don't make products like they used to any more.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
