bad keyboard, bad screen
on April 16, 2014

while the performance and general fabrication still seems ok, two things are disappointing with this laptop:
* the screen resolution is not good enough, the screen itself is smaller than it could be for the size.
* the proven 6 key block with pg-up, pg-dwn, delete top right got replaced by - nothing :( if i want a keyboard layout like this, i do not need to go for lenovo with this price.

Last of the good ThinkPads?

This X230 is typically good, needed for its small size. Satisfactory, once we installed Classic Shell to bypass Windows 8 idiocy.

Wouldnt buy another lenovo
on August 6, 2014

Bought this unit after owning a few other units. This by far, is the worst. Build quality has slipped majorly.
Here's what I dislike:
-really weak\flawed wifi on win8. Tried everything.
-Flimsy build versus prev. generation. The 'LENOVO' silver bedge on the outter lid is chipped in 3 spots
-The screen has hot spots (bright white spots), I've been told these are pressure points. It's annoying.
-Light bleed is annoying when watching movies
-Touch pad is garbage. Really bad sensitivity and the click pad just doesn't work well.
What I do like:
-Backlit kb with thinklight still offered
-Great performance (3320m)
-msata option for ssd
-keyboard has some flex but still better than competitors
Overall, I would not by this unit again. Likely my last thinkpad. My biggest issue is the flaky wifi. It's been 2years and still no driver to fix this.

Excellent Laptop That Still Keeps With the times
on October 7, 2014

I bought this laptop brand new through lenovo's outlet center. Loved my X201 but it was getting old.
This is a great laptop. A lot of people are bashing the keyboard without giving it a chance. Come on people, we're supposed to be adults, don't knock something till you try it.
I can't say the current keyboard is any better than the last style, but it's about as good. If you have larger hands (unlike me) you'd probably even appreciate the extra space.
The laptop itself is solid and well built. Battery life (with Linux) hits about 10 hours (medium use, wi fi).
The trackpad isn't perfect but it's still quite good once you get used to it.

Waste of Money

Okay, this computer I do not like. The design is poor and mine is chipped and broken in many places, and I am very careful and respectful with all of my things. The lenovo programs and systems on the computer (i.e. lenovo thinktap) are awful and the price is very unreasonable for what you get - many better computers exist that are cheaper to buy than this one.

Works for me!

I think the computer performs pretty well, though the Lenovo software tends to slow the computer down when it opens. I like many of the features: backlit keyboard, webcam, light weight, durable. 2 big things that it doesn't have: CD drive and HDMI port. While the price was more than I would pay for (in retrospect), the computer has served me well
