Great sound with NC on, so so with it off

I purchased these about a year ago and have used them in my office and on flights. The Noise Cancellation is OK, but not as good as I was hoping when no music is playing. Once my music is playing though, these seal well enough around my ears that I don't get distracted by, or pay attention to, the noise outside of the music.
I use the small band, and had to make some slight adjustments to the metal band to get these to fit perfect on my head, but after some slight bending of the band, they fit VERY comfortably on my head and ears.
I wouldn't recommend these to someone looking for peace and quiet without music, but if listening to music, you can't go wrong!
I also have the AKG 490NC headphones, and those have better sound with the NC off, but don't do as well as the HK with NC on.
Great product!

Excellent Headphone

I bought these headphones to replace my Beats Executive when one side quit working. I have to say the sound difference is like night and day when compared to the Beats Executive. When listening to music, I hear balanced and clear sound from the NC. The rechargeable built in battery is also nice as I never have to worry about getting batteries again. In addition, if I accidentally leave the noise cancelling on and drain the battery (which I have done several times), I can still listen to music through the NCs. The same can't be said with the Beats Executives. The noise cancelling, helps reduce noise especially when I am studying in busy locations. This is a great headphone in both audio quality and design.

i always wanted some unique looking noise cancelling headphones. I didnt want to buy the same old Bose NC headphones which everyone has out there. I travel a lot and this is my best companion now. comfortable, little heavier, people ask what's that?, only drawback was it took me a long time to find a shop that sells. but no luck. i ordered online. had a coupon from Harman for being the first time customer.
Overall its great. Noise cancelling is perfect. Sound is clear. never heard the song with that quality in my other headphones ( all name brand, i collect headphones)

The best Noise Cancellation headphones I have ever tried. Music quality is so pure and pleasant to hear unlike other over-rated brands. Best thing I love about the headphones is that it can work without NC when it runs out of battery. Lot better when compared to QC15 and other so called top models. One disadvanage is that the connecting cable has a jack on one side which is not universal. Other than that no complaints...

I've had them a week. I've never had NC headphones or HK before. I like my Sennheiser CX300 buds and Sennheiser HD280 Pros a lot, but they lack NC and I work in an office that has a loud rumbling HVAC system. It is like being near a small jet engine all day, every day. Music with dynamics is hard to listen to because it washes out.
-I took the HK NCs to the Bose store and put them against the QC25. In comparison, the HKs were worse in every way (except the price I paid with the HKs on sale). The HKs are way heavier and a bit less comfortable. The NC on the HK is less dramatic (not that these are bad, but the Bose NC is amazingly good). The sound was close, but the HK lacked the detail and spatialization that came through on the Bose.
-I'll deviate from most other reviewers and state that the details on the HK NC are much better with NC off. With NC off, they are very similar to my Sennheiser HD280 Pros. With NC on, the details are lost. Things are less bright in a way that I cannot tweak out with EQ adjustments. It is almost like I have earplugs in under the headphones. As an example a guitar with the chorus panned across speakers comes out sparkly and clear with NC off and flat/almost mono sounding with NC on. The same goes with finding the cymbals in space. With NC on, things flatten and move to the center. The only good is that the bass gets a bit punchier when the NC is killing the rumble of the HVAC.
-The cord is a flaw. It is low and it points straight down at one's shoulder. It creates a shirt-scraping noise at the slightest head adjustment. This is especially bad because the input/mic box is at collar level and makes every scrape twice as loud as it could be if it were a plain cable.
-The charging and playing cords (using the same single headphone port) are 2.5mm, so it will be a pain to find replacements. (Note that the Bose QC25 uses a similar 2.5mm arrangement, so there is no way to get a sensible standard 3.5mm cable.)

In short, the HK NCs aren't BAD, they just aren't spectacular. For the price, these should be spectacular. I had some super-cheapy NC headphones and I won't bother you with comparing....these are in a different world of NC and sound.
I will speculate that the HK recognizes that the NC circuit needs to be tweaked a lot OR something like a second set of independent drivers needs to be added so the NC can do its thing and the drivers can do their thing without fighting. I hope HK is coming up with a revised model to make up for these issues.

I bought this two weeks ago, and the shipping was very quickly. It makes me feel like real, such as go to the concert. Nice sound, especially alto voice.
