This is hands down the worst printer I have ever owned. Period. Don't take this review as sole input ***Search online for the number of troubleshooting references***, sure wish I had. The biggest issue is the ink. The printer has frequent maintenance required to fix blank pages and clogged printer heads. Unfortunately, this is timely and costly, as you must use a large amount of ink to troubleshoot. Additionally, you cannot print degraded pages, meaning if one color is low the printer will not allow any printing until it's replaced. The printer notification states you can print in black but it doesn't actually work.
I have replaced all printer cartridges and then without printing any pages, within 1 week the printer says another color is low. We restored all settings, downloaded any Epson recommended updates, but still no success.
I tried getting support from Epson but they seem more interested in selling me another printer. No Thanks, I'll spend my time/money on something that works.

Quickly consumes ink cartridges! $$$

As a small business owner, I thought this would be a relatively inexpensive all-in-one printer that could accommodate light duty printing/copying as needed.
I was sorely disappointed with my experience in using this product. The print quality was poor, and repeated efforts to correct alignment and clean printer heads resulted in the bleeding out of ink cartridges. After very few number of uses (<10) of small print jobs, single page b&w document with conservative ink preserving settings, I had depleted a full black ink cartridge.
Additionally, I found myself having to troubleshoot printing errors, and had difficulty ensuring the printer "spike" inside was not clogged and preventing ink from being adequately discharged. This printer, although a nice "all in one" package idea, requires a good deal of maintenance... and is not worth the added cost lost in paying for replacement ink cartridges.

This is the worst printer I have ever had. Epson used to be a quality Printer, but not this one. I use it with a Mac and have no control over the print quality. It can't print black only lighter or darker. The scanner is great as is the fax, but wont print photo's or web pages worth a darn. The Epson site is no better for help on this problem.

The WF-2540 product was made for a specific big-name store, and I carefully read the many positive reviews on that store's website before selecting. The problem is all due to the ink. There are 4 colors incl. black, and if one is out, you can't print at all (even if you have a new black, you can't print B+W). Once you put in a color, the setup you must do to get it aligned takes SO MUCH INK. For ex, I was out of black, couldn't do anything, bought black. Ran the setup to align, during which it lost one of the other colors - and WOULDN'T LET ME PRINT. So I buy that color cartridge and run the setup, and another color is low, and it won't let me print. Husband buys a 3rd color, we run setup - and it won't let us print because black is out! (Even before the 4th color!) This was the most recent event, but indicative of our entire experience. I bought this 2 years ago. I was just asked today by an Eps email to write a review, and the reason I am doing it - 2 years on - is that this purchase still negatively impacts me as I am not able to afford a new printer. Two years later. I thought I had researched so well. As I understand it, inkjet ink goes down quickly, but reviews on non big-box-store sites swear that this product's ink goes so quickly that there must be either an ink-release problem or it was designed with that awareness (having to constantly buy ink). This review is not an exaggeration, and as we CAN'T afford something else, was a total heartbreak for the excitement we had when we'd then decided to purchase. Just... sad.

I didn't mean to, but I downgraded in printers when I bought this one. When you ask it to print in black/grayscale, it leaves blank lines throughout the document. The color is not as crisp as I was hoping. I thought I was paying less for this machine because it lacked the extra features others have but I think I am paying less for less quality as well.

I love this printer; it can do everything, and so well. The price was very reasonable, and the quality of the prints is fantastic. It's the best printer I ever had, and so easy to set up the wireless, I can even access it from my IPad. Being 71 years old, that's quite an accomplishment, thank you Epson.
