Set Up and First Use of WF-2540
on June 13, 2013

Overall a very good printing product, but it could be somewhat better with little or no additional cos to EPSON. For example:
#1: The "OK" button is surrounded by a piece of plastic with up/down/left/right arrows stenciled on it. The piece of plastic is mounted and intended to be "loose" to the operators "feel", however, this looseness gives it a "flimsy" feeling leaving a bad impression with the user. Almost like it is broken and/or a manufacturing defect.
#2: The left adjustable paper guide for the paper support system is located in a bad place. It is located way down in the paper support area and difficult to reach. It would be better located if it were directly opposite the right fixed paper guide, where it would be easier to reach and also where it would provide a more accurate alignment of the paper in the paper support system. With the right guide high up in the paper support system, and the left guide way down in the paper support system, the input paper ends up being slightly "canted" to the left.
#3: It is not clear whether or not the printer ever goes into a "sleep" mode. There is no reference to this mode in the included "Quick Guide" so for now I am turning it "ON/OFF manually. It would be nice if the "Quick Guide" would reference this issue so I do not have to do more research.
#4: The set up instructions for wireless printing are good except for one item. My wireless module (An Apple Product) has the capability to provide a "Primary Network" for the Primary Home users, and also provides for a "Guest Network" capability with a separate password and restricted usage for any house guests that may want to use the home network. I went thru the set up instructions and set up both Networks (at least I thought I did) on the printer. I did not know (and the instructions did not state this) that the printer won't handle two network set ups, so whatever network set up one goes thru last is the one on which it operates. Since I entered the "Guest Network" information last, and the computer I was using was (is) set up to operate on the "Primary Network", the installation software got "hung up" and would not let me proceed past the "Add Printer" set up step. It also did not give me any information on what the issue was, and consequently, it obviously did not give me any information on how to solve the issue. I was essentially "stymied". I had to call Epson's technical support, and after we went thru various diagnostic procedures, we determined what the problem was. A simple entry in the set up instructions would have saved me and the Epson company a lot of time and aggravation.
I only intend to use this product as a printer on my home wireless network, and for minor copying jobs. So far it is performing very well, and with very good quality printing results. We have two other EPSON Printers used in our home computer network and they are also working very well.

Thoroughly Disappointed

Bought to replace an Epson WF-610 which I had liked very much. This one was painfully slow and the worst ink hog ever. Had to be defective since I used two magenta cartridges in about three weeks while printing nothing but black! Black ink consumption seemed excessive as well.

I replaced black ink and when i went to print it said to replace another cartridge and than another and than another and still cannot print not even in black. It will not let you print if one of the colors is out even if you choose black only. I replaced all but yellow and still can't print. You waste so much money on ink.

Excellent buy!

We only use it for home but I home school my kids and use a printer quite a lot. The school sent me a printer but due to a 2 year old with a lot of hands on curiosity I had to move the printer into a locked room. I bought this printer so I could print via Wi-Fi and its been such a huge help! After I registered the product I was able to print everything from my phone for their following school day and prepare lessons while I watched my kids at the same time. Color printing is a bit slow but not terrible.

EPSON WF-25450 -- great value in a small package
on August 5, 2014

The Epson WF-2540 is a nice and compact multi-function printer/scanner ideal for tight workspaces. With its suprisingly good print speeds for general use, especially documents, and its built-in wireless and remote printing capabilities, it offers excellent value for the price. Flatbed scanning size is limited, but the automatic document feeder can handle up to legal size. The WF-2540 has a lot of versatility built in -- including borderless printing and many document/paper formats handled, although its paper capacity is quite limited. It does have built-in logic for manual duplex printing -- great for saving paper (and space, with no duplexer jutting out back) despite the modest inconvenience. If needing only low volume printing but excellent quality output, versatility, and the convenience of wireless and remote printing, the Epson WF-2540 delivers plenty of bang for the buck.

Frequent Issues
on August 12, 2014

Printer locks up frequently with an "error" that requires the unit to be shut down, ink cartridges removed and reinserted. (Very sad because I use only genuine Epson ink/cartridges.) Sometimes that will work, other times, for some unknown reason, it decides it is not going to work for 2-3 days at a time - VERY frustrating when you have something that needs to be printed NOW due to time constraints!

I was impressed with the speed of delivery and most of all the setup. Everything went perfectly. Amazing. How often can you say that when you're adding a new wireless printer? Highly recommended.
