This cooling stand has solved the problem of using the laptop when I'm sitting away from the desk which is most of the time. The only thing is that I do move the cord with the laptop. I'm not sure how it would affect the battery. It is comfortable using it on my lap. It makes a small noise, but it's not a problem for me. It's easy to disconnect if it bothers you. Just using the stand helps even when unplugged. It is a nice slanted angle on the desk too. I highly recommend this stand.

The Chill Mat does keep the laptop cooler and if you put your laptop in your lap, it will keep your thighs cool.

Love the chill mat and since I started using it, my computer which I was told couldn't be repaired due to the fact that the graphics card is embedded and not functioning well is now working fine. Go figure.

I figured I would give this a try and send it back if not happy. I love it! It works even better than I had hoped it might, keeping my laptop and my lap completely cool. I'm also amazed at how quiet it is. I can barely hear it running even when holding it up near my head. It does have a very slight vibration to it, but it doesn't transfer to the laptop and is the only flaw I can find to point out. I highly recommend this product.
