LUVE THIS CAMERA!!!!!!!

from Springfield,IL.
I purchased this Camera in Sept.2011 I just purchased The T1i a month earlier. Love both cameras, but the T3i is the superior of two. It takes a novice amateur like me and makes me look like a pro. I am increasing lens, now have 7 and one is 16mm-35mm ultra wide L series lens. This is goning to be my main Camera forever. Again: LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!!!!!!
Pros: everything good
Cons: nothing bad

Learn about the wireless feature first
on February 16, 2012

This is proving to be a great camera but if you are buying it because of the wireless sync feature read the manual online first and understand it. It was not what I thought it was. I wanted to use a flash separate from the camera and I assumed the "wireless" feature would do that (with a dedicated flash) and it does BUT the camera flash has to be popped up to do it. So why spend all the money on a "wireless sync" camera and dedicated flash when a $25 remote slave on any flash will do the same? Kind of silly. They should call it "Wireless flash exposure control" because that is the real benefit for using it, not to just set the remote flash off which any sync will do a lot cheaper. Note: the camera flash can be turned off while popped up but it still flashes a focus flash which might or might not effect the photo and you run the risk of damaging the flash if it's always popped up and it hits something. I use a flash meter so I don't need all the "wireless exposure bells and whistles so I spent way too much money for what I needed but I'm sure I will enjoy it down the road. Other than that it's a great camera for the price point and will do everything short of walking the dog and washing the dishes (except wireless sync without the flash turned on that is).

Fully Automatic Shooting has poor focus capability
on October 31, 2011

In general, I like my T3i, as long as I am not using the "fully automatic shooting" mode. Too often I am let down by the camera's inability to focus on the subject in the center of the screen. My inexpensive point-n-shoot does a much better job.
For example, do not use "fully automatic shooting" under the following conditions: a) sitting at a table, taking photos of friends across the table, your wine glass will be crystal clear (in focus) but not your friends (even if the glass is in the far periphery of the picture). b) a simple portrait of your kids, one of them sticks out their hand (with a peace symbol), the hand will be in focus, not their (very centered in the frame) faces. c) the next photo of the kids with no hand sticking out, their clothes with very fine lines in the threading will be in focus (of all the things you care about) but not their faces (I really wanted to see their blemishes).
I don't know why the Canon design engineers changed the focus strategy from "centered" to "whatever is nearest" for the fully automatic mode, but I am too often dissatisfied when I get a nicely framed shot, good lighting with the automatic exposure, but the faces are blurred. All of that good engineering wasted.
If you take a lot of personal shots, and need the point-n-shoot capability to be flawless for simple shots, then I recommend that you look elsewhere.
Pros: quiet, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD
Cons: poor focus auto mode
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Wonderful Camera
on December 22, 2012

This camera worked wonderfully, taking great pictures and outstanding video, until it broke after 8 uses. Quality of the product is below par, having lasted less than 5 months (400 -600 pictures)
Battery life is a little poor, when shooting video, but a spare battery will overcome this shortfall and is a great accessory.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, poor quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
