Camera looking for that SLR image quality

What can I say just a joy to use. Low light performance and quality of images is second to none in this price range. And the build quality is superb. Well done Sony!!!

Loved this until.....

Bought the camera for indoor low light concerts for a band that i work for. It did such a stellar job many people thought i was using a DSLR! Absolutely loved the camera for both stills and videos. And then one night it started malfunctioning. if i went to press the button, the window changed over to the wheel and started rotating furiously! it finally stopped but again, almost every time I went to take a pic the wheel would show up. While it didn't change it was super annoying and I lost many good shots. For one show I had to switch to video mode then spend extra time pulling frames from them for my still shots. My warranty is up and don't want to spend alot of money getting it repaired if it can be repaired. Been looking at the A6000 or waiting for it's replacement. Sad that it malfunctioned on me because i was totally in love with this camera!

Hi LJMick,

We're sorry to hear about this. I would suggest a power reset to reset the camera back to its default settings to try to resolve the issue.

A delight to use!

I had already enjoyed using my RX100, first generation, for work and fun photography. The RX100 II takes ultraportable, high fidelity photography to a new level, especially with wifi and phone connectivity. Love it!

Just Got The Camera
on July 31, 2013

Just got the camera. I have used the previous version of this camera for a year now and it's great. I was looking forward to the wi-fi feature of the new camera, but it's a no-go, at least if you're a Mac OSX user.
There's one thing I really hate -- us Mac users being relegated to the back of the bus insofar as software support is concerned. In this case, I go to the web link Sony has designated in the supporting documentation as the link to download the software for wi-fi for the Mac (a completely unintelligible Japanese link if you must know, or are fluent in Japanese) and I am greeted with a "File Not Found" (the only non Japanese characters on the web site) greeting.
Please don't tell me that a company as large as Sony is incapable (or unwilling) to release software support for a product for both the Windows and the Mac platform simultaneously. Very frustrating experience and it definitely does not make me want to buy a VAIO computer if that's their ulterior motive.
What's great about it: It is the best compact camera you can buy.
What's not so great: Wireless software for Mac?
I would recommend this to a friend!

Compact and sharp. High iso make low light environment shooting situation with no problem. Almost worth for the price. WiFi is a plus and playmemories apps has lots of room to improve

Very Happy
on October 4, 2013

I have just upgraded from the DSC-HX5 to the DSC-RX100M and it has been a real treat. My first pics that i took, i could see they were superior to my old camera. It is a little heavier but other than that, i am very happy.

Verified Purchase:Yes
good image quality, good in marginal light conditions. No digital zoom - optical zoom to 3x only. Haven't yet begun to decipher all the features of this camera, I have a feeling I'm only beginning to tap the potential of this device.
I would recommend this to a friend!

ILCE-7R NOT A SPORTS CAMERA - FAST ACTION
on July 1, 2014
Posted by: jmknights
The Good:
36mb Excellent Resolution, color, sharpness.
The Bad:
Extremely slow startup time.
Noisy, slow focus, shutter actuation(after pushing shutter button takes extra ordinary time for shot to be taken.
Quirky some times it show down right in the middle of a shot.
Review button sometimes fails to activate.
Poor battery life and expensive at $79.00
I have A99,A77,A900,A700,A100, RX100 and Nex5 to compare it to. If could have the low light capability, 36mb,resolution, and speed of my A99 or A900 I would be a very happy camper. For landscapes, portraits etc.; it is a great camera for a sport photographer it just doesn't cut it!
