I have had to re-install ink cartridges twice already, and I have been using the printer for less than two months. I print on average about a dozen pages of normal, black-text documents each week, with perhaps a small graphic here or there, and occasionally I have printed small clip-art pictures. To make matters worse, the printer never indicated each time it was out of ink. Instead, it just stopped printing and made a sound like the cartridge was trying to move but couldn't. And then, when I figured out it was out of ink (again), it would not move the ink cartridge mechanism to where I could install the new cartridges. When I finally re-installed a new black, cyan, magenta, and yellow, it still wouldn't print. I can only assume it was because the "photo" black cartridge was now showing as empty (which I have no idea when it uses that ink when I never printed any photos, and I don't know why it wouldn't print with all of the other working cartridges).

It seemed to work fine until it didn't. The ink jets are plugged. We've only had it a few months. Very disappointing. I've never had that trouble before with the other printers we've had. I only use Epson genuine ink.

XP-810 Printer Combo

I could not get the printer to scan. After many days of trying, my Windows 7 (Home Premium) evaluation told me the printer was not compatible with my edition of Windows. Unfortunately I did not find this out until it was too late to return the printer. The incompatibility also caused my Windows to crash several times.
It prints very well but I expected much more from its description. Beware! I usually like Epson products very much but this has been a problem.

tried to print envelopes. took over an hour to figure out. It prints landscape sometimes even when I have it set to Portrait. Having trouble scanning to my computer too. It prints well once you get it to work right.

I must say I didn't like this printer at first. I had a Cannon in the past and this printer was very different. It took me a while to learn how to use it, but when I did it works great. It is not as simple to operate as the printer I had.

This printer is just what I wanted - small footprint, quality printing and quiet operation. The wireless feature works well and the two sided printing and scanning are great. A problem with printing envelopes was solved with the help of Epson Support. Paper handling seems good. Don't do a lot of printing so cost of ink is not a big factor.

I've had Epson printers for years and for the most part have been very pleased with the results. The Epson reputation continues with the XP-810. I'm very pleased with the print quality and user friendly capability of the printer, CD printer and copier. My only suggestion for improvement is a button to close the front of the printer when not in use. Closing it manually feels like I'm forcing it closed and have the fear of stripping gears.
