Better then the bult-in Smart TV application

Using Roku's website it's easy to research if your TV's make and model has MHL-HDMI capability, most TV's with MHL clearly list the feature on the box and literature.
The Streaming Stick could not be easier to install (just plugs into MHL-HDMI port), set-up is a breeze by following the menu and the device couldn't be easier to use, your TV's remote controls the functions just like it came installed from the factory, but the Roku's available programming is extensive, more so than any other I've seen.
You can use the slick Smartphone app to control the Streaming Stick.
My only small concern is that the device remains powered up even after the TV is powered off and the little Streaming Stick stays fairly warm to the touch.
I had been using a Samsung BluRay device for video streaming and it proved to be a lesson in frustration, it was slow to boot up and respond to commands and would constantly re-buffer when playing HD video content even though I have plenty of Internet bandwidth and a capable N Dual band WiFi router, the Roku in comparison is brilliant with instant response and never any re-buffering.
Final thought is that: Unlike the Smart TV aplications built-in to televisions this device can be (easily and inexpensively) unplugged and replaced should it ever become physically obsolete, it does automatically check for and install any software updates on a daily basis.
I couldn't be any happier with this Streaming Stick.

Works Great

It is used to watch live NHL hockey games and Netflix. Always ready to go, no booting up needed. My DSL WiFi modem radio is setup to broadcast signal at 20% power to keep neighbors off of it. The Roku does well with that. I also setup MAC authentication for security and no problems. It does not do well with hidden WiFi or with modem based firewall, so those are not used. One thing is I don't know how Roku can say it has 1000 channels, I see about 30, and most of them are subscription. Since NHL and Netflix has so much, it's not a big problem. I just hope Roku supports the device for at least 15 more years, my TV is brand new and I got this one because it's Roku Ready.

Streaming Stick packs a punch

The Steaming Stick/3M projector combo is a great space saver for a small city apartment that offers a multitude of viewing options for us non-tv owners. Roku has introduced me to new news organizations, great movies, and tv shows. I just purchased the Roku 2 as a gift for my mom. Whatever Roku you decide to purchase, you'll love it.

I bought this a few months ago and had to return the first one I bought because it didn't work. I exchanged it for a new one to see if the product was any good. It worked for a few weeks then stopped. It doesn't work well at all. I tried to contact customer service on chat and it was going to take 3 hours to talk to a person. Not worth it at all. I'll just bring the thing back.

Should have been made for HDMI

Before you buy, remember this: If your TV doesn't have an mhl port, you are forced to buy an adapter that costs around 20 bucks before you can use the Streaming Stick. MHL is a nice thing to have, but it's still in its infancy and most people with newer TV's only have HDMI ports to work with. So on top of the cost of the Streaming Stick, you have to shell out another 20 bucks or so for an adapter. I appreciate Roku providing an option to compete with their competitors, but they made a big mistake by going the mhl route that only a few manufacturers of the newest TV's even offer. Big mistake Roku, big mistake. If you're going to spend this much for the stick, why not spend a few extra bucks and get the Roku 3 that comes with a remote and cable?
