Doesn't clean clothes
on March 12, 2014

Machine looks well built and has a lot of features but it can't wash clothes. I have tried everything to get this machine to clean but it just cant. Clothes just sit in the dirty water and move around very little. Recently put muddy sheet in the washer which couldn't dissolve or dislodge dirt and have it fall to bottom of drum. Washed it twice and still no luck. washed sons dirty shirt. Dirt still left on clothes. I blame it on not having an agitator to mix the clothes around. This new energy efficient design is not when you have to wash thing over. Wish I had my old washer back. I have read these high reviews and it seems every one is hung up on the looks and features but don't mention how it washes clothes.

Worst cleaning of clothes of any washer ever
on June 3, 2014

The washer looks great and is the perfect size. However, the quality of washing (if you can call getting the clothes wet, soaking for the cycle, and spinning the water out "washing") is HORRIBLE! Hand washing would be better ( I have actually been pausing each wash and reaching in the tub to at least "dunk" the clothes and move them around a little). The tub moves about one inch each direction during the wash cycle. The clothes just sit in the water (which only covers the clothes if you use the "bulky" option). You will find the clothes are still dirty, even simple to wash, very lightly soiled items, after each wash. There is absolutely no movement of the clothing during the wash cycles. I also don't understand pouring detergent into a drawer which then pours the soap directly onto the top of the clothes when it is closed. Purpose? This is truly the worst cleaning of any washer ever.

Does not Live Up to Promise

One major and two minor problems with this washer.
The major one is that it will not wash with hot
water. It has a "hot" setting, but this mixes
about half hot and half cold water. What makes it
even worse is that after the first few minutes of
washing, additional water is added to the tub, and
this is 100% cold water. I thought that something
was wrong with my machine, so I had an LG
repairman come to look at it. He measured the
temperature of the water after the initial fill
and found it to be 97 F. He said that this is the
correct temperature, and even called LG to comfirm
his claim. Some things, such as bedding and
diapers should be washed in water that is 130 F or
higher, which is what is considered "hot". A
temperature of 97 F is "warm" by most standards.
A partial solution is two keep the cold water
turned off until the initial fill is complete, but
it has to be on for the secondary fill, which
still means no hot wash.
The first minor problem is that there is no liquid
detergent cup, so the detergent immediately starts
to drip on the articles in the washer. This could
be a problem if using the "delay wash" feature, as
concentrated detergent would sit in spots on the
fabric until the wash cycle starts. It is
interesting that the manual mentions the liquid
detergent cup in a couple of places, and in one
place even says to be sure that it is in place.
But when I contacted LG, they said no cup is used
in this model.
The second minor problem is that LG was too
agressive in water saving. If the default water
level is used, then the articles in the load do
not move enough to be cleaned. I saw this in the
first load that I did. It had 4 pair of men's
slacks and a number of socks. A section of the
waist band of one of the slacks never got into the
water. The second load had 10 sport shirts. Two
of the shirts started on the top of the load and
stayed on top during the entire wash cycle.
Needless to say, they were not clean. By using
the "water plus" feature, a larger amount of water
is used, and things move around more during the
wash cycle. So far, the cleaning results have
been satisfactory when using "water plus". You
don't save as much water, but it is still a lot
less than a conventional machine.
Some reviews complain of the load getting out of
balance. I have run into this only once. The
load consisted of 3 flannel shirts and a pair of
heavy socks. The 3 shirts got their sleeves all
tangled together and became like a single heavy
item.
The high efficency washing machine is a great
idea, but this version has not done it right.

A HUGE disappointment
on September 3, 2015
Posted by: Disappointed Customer
from Davis, CA
When our Kenmore front loader finally started giving out after around 13 years, we started shopping for a replacement. Our laundry room is old and space is very limited, which ruled out many washers simply based on the available space. We finally came across this one and reluctantly decided to go back to a top loader (with the consolation that at least was a High Efficiency model). We were happy to read the great reviews, though, and we were impressed by the manufacturer's warranty. I'm sad to say that we have been EXTREMELY disappointed!
We have owned this washer for eight months. We live in California where we are dealing with severe drought. Water efficiency is a major concern for us. Based on the information we had read about this machine, it sounded like ti would be very efficient. Unfortunately, that "efficiency" has come at a cost. As some reviews have pointed out, sometimes the clothes on the top hardly get wet, much less moved around very much. From the beginning we consistently found residue on articles of clothing when we removed the laundry to hang out on the line: The residue varies, sometimes pale, almost waxy looking streaks and clumps, sometimes darker. I switched from the high-quality He powdered laundry detergent I had used for years with our Kenmore without any issues and found a He liquid to use. No change, we're still getting residue. We've played with the settings and various temperatures with no luck. I've taken to having to hand-rinse numerous articles of clothing after each wash and wring them out before I hang them out on the line. You should see the water in the bucket after I'm done (I've uploaded photos): cloudy and murky beyond belief. My husband is experiencing skin irritation and itching where elastic in his underwear touches his skin—he thinks it's because of the laundry residue left behind. Needless to say, the actual cleaning of the clothing is sub-par. If you can even refer to it as "cleaning." When there's that much residue left behind, you know that there's dirt left behind as well. This is a huge disappointment since we like the features on the washer and the fact that it fits in the space we have available. But frankly, I wish we'd simply spent the money to have our Kenmore repaired. Our 13-year-old front loader did a much better job on laundry than this modern LG washer—and when you take into the account the extra rinse cycles we sometimes use, it used a lot less water too.
Pros: Style/Design, easy to use

WOW! so quiet you don't even know it's running!

This washer does a great job cleaning our clothes. It is so much better than the washer we replaced. It has a lot of flexibility in the settings. We got the smallest bin version of this series and we struggle to fill it. Even when it looks full, the water goes in and it seems like there is barely anything in there. The bin is cavernous! We only put 1 or 2 tablespoons of detergent in the tray because the washer uses so very little water! I love watching how the machine analyzes the clothes you put in and the settings you choose, and then gives a read out of the time needed to do the wash. This is a great feature - you know how long the cycles take and can return when it is done. Hint: I set the timer on my oven so I know when to return to put the stuff in the dryer! It is quiet and efficient and I just LOVE it! Besides it looks COOL and high-tech. If you have a bigger family, you might want the 4.6 bigger capacity drum/bin instead. But for a 2 person household, this is perfect! We looked at machines costing much more and thought this was the best value for the money. Way to go LG! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, innovative, entertaining!

I couldn't be happier with my new LG Washer. I like the fact there is no center post for clothing to become wrapped around. The machine determines how much water is needed. I can set the soil levels and water temperature.

Replaced a front loaded with this one because our well water was causing too many issues with the front loader. This is the best washing machine we have ever had. Not well water issues. Brought based on Consumer Reports recommendations. WAY too GO CONSUMER REPORTS.

Perfect performance, price, and appearance

Needed to buy a machine in a hurry, but still did a lot of research, as wanted the best one out there.
I was advised by many friends not to get a front loader, so that decision was easy. I then focused my attention on top loaders available. Visited websites and read many reviews, then went to the store to compare several machines before making my purchase. Once there, it was an easy decision. LG just looked to be the best choice.
I am SO glad I selected this LG machine. I am pleased in very way. There are machines out there costing a lot more, and I cannot imagine why anyone would need to spend more. This is a beauty. So easy to operate, has great features, such as the ability to decide how much water is needed for each load, and clothes come out REALLY clean, the machine is very quiet, and it spins each load much drier than my old machine, thus saving time in the dryer.
I love you LG!
