I have the 3240 which works wonderfully but on a whim and with discount, etc., I purchased this model for the size - easier to store. Operationally it is frustrating. Like others, it often doesn't vacuum although I can usually fuss with pressure on the lid and then it works. I am using Food Saver bags, have read and re-read instructions and it is just not consistently working.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Please make sure that you are pre-freezing foods with moisture such as fresh meats and seafood. Liquids/juices coming from these foods may cause issues when the FoodSaver is vacuuming the air and when it's sealing the bag. Also, be sure to leave at least 3 inches of empty space at the end of the bag, so the vacuum sealer have enough space to remove the air out. Bought this a year ago and love it! It is my first food sealer. Love it so much, just ordered another (this model) for my aunt for her 86th Birthday so she does not have to borrow mine! :)

This unit replaces a previous similar system that we just wore out. It worked for several years, so we certainly got our money's worth, but the seal was no longer secure. It is so good to have a dependable machine again. I think the system has improved since the last purchase and I love the little jar sealer. I'm still dreaming up uses for that!

We started with the larger model and loved it. Once the 4 boys moved out we didn't have as much need for the big one, but still liked saving money by buying in bulk. I can also put together several crock-pot meals at one time and vacuum seal them to last for months. Great space saving size too.

I have purchased TWO of these in the last month hoping to freeze summer fruits and vegetables and TWO units did not work. SO disappointed. It's a piece of C*** believe me. Do not waste your money.

Disappointed single mom trying to save food

I was really excited to finally finally finally get a food saver and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. Trying to get this to work properly was a task. The gaskets have to be just so and keep falling out, making the unit not vacuum seal. And then when I CAN get it to seal, it will take out most of the air but not all. Not sure if I should have just spent the extra money to get a more high end food saver but anything from food saver should still do an adequet job...bit let down.
