I love the ROKU 1, There is no extra space taken up, and I can use it at anytime during the day or evening. no more need for a library of DVD's or CD's.

Only able to get I local channel. Channel 4, CBS. Mostly looking for old movies. Only one plays the others get to the first commercial and then return to the channel, and you have to start over. Unwatchable. To much having to sign in for different channels or shows. I'm not a modern movie watcher. Doubt that I will keep watching. Has to improve soon. Not enough time to make up your mind when
signing in to new channel. No real time news. Everything is previous clips.

Does what is advertised

I bought this because I felt like it was the only way to get an accurate understanding of what it is and does. I found that it really depends more on the apps that you activate than what the device does itself. Most if not all viewings are videos, even the news apps. You don't get live-stream without having cable, etc. I guess this environment still has room to grow and improve. I am not interested in replacing one expense (cable, U-verse, satellite) for another (ROKU appps). Many apps require that you have a subscription with cable, U-verse, etc. in order to see things like TNT, A&E, etc. The only thing that I see you are doing is to eliminate one or more of the converter boxes, but still have to have the service that you are trying to eliminate.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love our Roku. This is not my first Roku device. Needed this one for our vacation home. Are Roku are all sinc'ed. It is so great that we can watch programs and movies when we want, not when some network programmer says we have to. Granted, doesn't have the recent shows (but if you subscribe to Amazon Prime you can purchase them). I LOVE not having to see commercials (Netflix). Hulu has commercials and you still have to pay to subscribe to Hulu, boo :(. The free channels available are great (like PBS, Smithsonian Channel, NatGeo). Would love it if they could have streaming real-time news (Like FoxNews, CNN, CNBC). You can get news shows slightly offset from when they were aired.
