I bought myself a Blu-ray player for Christmas that did all the same things that Roku does. But after reading all the reviews on it and the issues people had trying to get their Blu-rays to work with all the apps, it was just easier to buy another Roku player.
It's so much easier for me to use the Blu-ray player as a player and not get all aggravated over trying to get all the extras to work.
I still have the very first Roku player that came out and a newer one we bought for another TV in another room and both still work great.
I wanted to be able to watch Roku in my bedroom and was extremely frustrated when I read all the reviews from many unhappy people when it came to the Blu-ray apps. It almost seemed like you needed to be a Rocket Scientist to get everything working right.
I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT OUR 3rd ROKU PLAYER!
One of the things I like most is, I can start watching a show in the Living Room, watch some more of it in the Den and finishing it at night just before falling asleep in my bed.
I love Roku and have since it first came out.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great for what it's used for

Having one of the older model Roku HD I decided to pick the basic one up for my mother for X-mas as I love mine. She now has access to my Netflix Amazon Prime videos, and Plex media server whenever she wants them.
I set it up at my place for her before Xmas even setting up the wireless since I was the one who also set that up for her, and explained how to do everything. She has had no issues navigating the menus. The only thing I hear is can you download this movie or this TV show for me when you get the chance.

Got it for kids at Christmas. It works just is slow. I prefer Apple Tv
