We bought 5 of these for Christmas presents thinking no matter what tv they had it will be great, wrong...none of them worked with the HDMI.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Works on older tv

Economical way to stream on our older "fat screen" tv. Use Netflix and you tube a lot. Most roku channels require extra fees. The free channels are limited and not very interesting. Still better than paying for cable.

This was a much wanted gift. I am in love with it. I had apps on my TV, but Roku has so many more. I can use my cable subscription to get many more on demand options from my premium channels. Also, it loads in super quick and I have had (knock on wood) almost no buffering. Yay!!!

Works flawlessly with one exception, and that is Netflix failure to retrieve. Apparent one must alter some settings in order to get Netflix - great if you can do so... Shouldn't it come basically ready to go?

Love the Roku

I used various "smart" tv's and blu-ray players to try and get in on the streaming experience and they all were clumsy, slow, hard to maneuver. Roku got it right, simple, effective, efficient searching for my next binge. Thanks Roku.
