Good value

Opens up a whole new world of streaming. Works fine for us, it is a little slow navigating the menu's but streams just fine. We also have a amazon firestick, which is faster than this roku 1, But we prefer the roku because of the simple unbiased menu and channel layout. the amazon stick promotes its own programming too much. For less tech savvy users that dont have much tech experience the roku is very simple to setup and operate unlike other brands.

New Life for an Old Set

I bought this about a month ago so I could stream programs from my Slingbox to my old CRT TV. Set up was quick and easy, and now I can get rid of my old cable box, which did not work most of the time anyway. The Roku 1 is the only way to go if you are still hanging onto an old CRT TV .

Does not compare to the Roku 4

If you already own a Roku 4 like me, and love how that performs, then you will be disappointed at the performance of a Roku 1. Sure I expect it to be a little slower than the Roku 4, but I did not realize that companies who publish channels must publish a lower feature channel. Best example, on Netflix you can not choose which user is watching. So now my wife's shows show up in my queue because on the Roku 1 there is no sign-in option to choose "who is watching."
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A great alternative for non HDMI TV Sets

My older TV had no HDMI input. Was able to connect through home entertainment center. Picture quality very good. Would recommend highly.

Takes getting used to

I have had it connected for about two weeks. I am still learning. The book is not very helpful for problems after setup. Picture and sound good but many issues - shows stop and start; message "are you still there?" not necessary; shows in Spanish when language is set to English. It takes forever to find a network or show because of all the scrolling you have to do to get to the right one. A list would be better.

great for old TV

I got an old flat screen with no HDMI. I do not use cable and wanted to stream my online content. Roku 1 was the perfect solution because it got the composite cables. I can watch my favorite shows now on big screen.
