We are so impressed!

We bought and installed two Rokus and one LG smart tv all in the same week. After using all of them, we are perplexed as to why we bought the smart tv -- which cost 10x the price of the two Rokus (ok, we wanted the 55 inch baby.....) But, we are streaming away on all of them, have dropped our DVD subscription, eliminated the need for cable hook up on one of the Roku tvs, and could not be more pleased with the product. Just to be able to stream movies from Netflix and Amazon is worth the price. And we are not tv mavins but set-up and operation of the Rokus was a snap, especially compared to the smart tv. Great product!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Opens the door to internet TV

Received the Roku 1 about 4 weeks ago. Amazingly easy to set up. Plugged it in and it just turned on. Easy navigation. Has been flawless. My 5 year old can navigate to her PBS channel and identify the show she wants because of the nice big graphic icons for each show. It has the typical SmartTV access with providers like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and other pay movie providers. I love how it connects to our family disk sub system - Synology so we can stream home movies, and our burned DVDs. The price is perfect. We use it pretty much every day.

Would be great, if it worked!

I like everything about the Roku 1, except it barely works. Our Roku gets very slow and skips a lot after about 1-2 hours. It seems that it overheats. If you unplug it, let it cool down, and plug the power cord in again, it works fine for a while. Also, I wish the Roku 1 and 2 had an option to just hard connect to the modem/router with a usb cord. We have fast wi-fi, but several walls between the modem and the Roku. All the shenanigans to get a strong wi-fi connection make my whole family dread even dealing with the Roku. So for everything the Roku does well, overheating and connectivity add too much inconvenience. We rarely use it.

great little streamer just a few kinks

have had unit for 2 weeks worked great lots of content and things to choose from only problem i had was sound clipping on net flix unpluged tv for a minute and plugged back in and the audio was fine unit runs almost 24/7 doesnt hardly get warm the old streamer i had was on melt down if i left it on this long

Doesn't play YouTube, and can't stream videos off my computer or iPad. I could probably stop there, but going into more depth; offers a dozen "free" channels that each have 2-3 episodes of some show that isn't worth watching & then tells you to subscribe. Within a week I'd watched all the free videos & in the last 6 months there hasn't been anything new. Maybe none of these features were intended for Roku-1, but then I can't see a purpose to its existence. It's like an mp3 player that can't play music... It may be cool technology, but I can't find a use for it.

Roku 3 is Great--- Roku 1 is frustrating

I had to return my Roku 1. It was horrible. So SLOW and laggy when you click the buttons. Underpowered processors inside make it as responsive as a GPS from 2001. I had to hit the same buttons over and over. It's practically unusable.
Hint: If you have an older TV and need a Roku with composite cables, don't get a Roku 1, get a Roku 3 and a powered HDMI to Composite converter box for about $30 online. It works like a charm!

Why would Roku offer something on roku 1 but you cannot use it unless you have Roku 2 or 3? There is a channel to cast media from personal device but it will not work on the Roku 1 is what I have been told. Why?

Content was pretty good, but it is very laggy. Purchased this a while back and ended up returning it to the store. big waste of time. it was slow and hard to navigate even with an excellent wifi connection.
