I had put off buying one of these as I had another streaming device but so many people were saying such great things I thought I would give it a try now I am about ready to throw the other device in the trash it had all PAY channels This device has so many channels so many options and so many FREE things you may want to use the pay channels as well but there is no need The search options and follow options are bonus. There are very few movies shows etc that I couldn't find on this device And if you cant find it then you get the option to watch for it if it ever appears I am almost ready to get rid of my cable TV as well This is all you need for at home entertainment I LOVE IT!! Highly recommend...oh and big bonus is it costs less than any other streaming device and so much more to offer

Many channel options, technical difficulties

Roku is a wonderful product with great potential that will hopefully be actualized in time as kinks get ironed out. The channel options are many and varied which has been a great experience, but we have encountered (and continue to have) some hiccups.
1.) Our remote was dysfunctional / hyperactive and we had to return our unit for replacement.
2.) We believed our second remote was also faulty until we realized it was only the batteries from the package were dead.
3.) Several channels would never fully load (Netflix, MTV, Comedy Central...). Deleting and reinstalling eventually helped.
4.) There seems to be a problem with free movie channels and their periodic commercial interruptions. The commercials are necessary to provide free content to the customer, but sometimes the screen blacks out indefinitely.
5.) The unit and remote need a power on/off button. When the programming blacks out, the unit must be unplugged and reconnected to resolve the channel black out issue.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
