Defective!

I hope my Roku 1 is defective and they're not all that way, is this the reason they were discounted, who knows. Sometimes I have to press the remote twice to get communication to roku unit, keys on remote somtimes too sensitive, my older roku was solid with no issues with signal, remote was solid, as were the keys, nice feel to it, etc. I'm very disappointed with roku1, now I have to go through the trouble of returning it and starting all over. Very laborious and time consuming.

Small, practical and good to have

Roku 1 (actually Roku LT) was easy to set up. It linked with the household Wifi quickly and reliably. It was worth the outlay just to obtain BBC iPlayer, but it offers much more. We subscribed to Netflix. There are many free commercial channels.
Some improvement is possible. We would like the channels on offer to include German and French programmes. (Asian channels are available). We would not subscribe to more than one paid for film channel, but it does not seem to be possible to choose Amazon Lovefilm as an alternative to Netflix.

It only took a about 10 minutes to set up. After I set it up I began watching a movie on TV.

Far From Amazing Control

So Roku doesn't have a way to connect your Roku to a wi-fi network using the Roku website?? That seems pretty primitive. You can connect Chromecast through the Google website. The same with AppleTV. Why hasn't Roku done something similar? I lost my Roku remote while moving and since there is no way to connect it to wi-fi without the remote my Roku is absolutely useless. Knowing this I will definitely be investing in a different device that is more user friendly from a company that understands the occasional needs of it's customers.

It is okay, but it is a gadget. A gadget that is made to upgrade regularly to "get the best overall experience of streaming." It is a thing. It will not be anything more. A piece of plastic that allows me to pay or another service in order to view outdated movies and shows. When I die I don't think my last words will be about roku.

Don't use much any more

I've owned this for over 6 months. Seems every channel requires subscription so nothing I found was free. I already had Netflix & Hulu so that's what I used the most. Netflix has user profiles that we always used but Roku doesn't show them. So we use our PCs instead. The Roku box seems to use a lot of network traffic even when not in use. Not sure what that's about, could be downloading upgrades or something. Still, the product does work and is a compliment to TVs running off airwaves. Would be nice to have a LAN jack on it and a power switch.
