My first Roku 1 was the original square black box. It provided great service for several years. Shortly after moving it ceased to work so I bought a new Roku one. It lasted less than two years. I just bought another one but the scroll will not stop at one click. I am going to return it and hope it's just a fluke with this one unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this back on 5/2013 new, it has been a great until recently. It would begin to download my program when the screen would go blank. I was able to hit the home button and went to Netflix and it did the same thing. Resetting it doesn't work, the setup screen came on briefly but back to a black screen. This is my 3rd player, I had another that quit but blamed on it being refurbished.
Works good, but just doesn't last much past the warranty. I rate it one star for value.

Poor WiFi, annoying credit card demnad

Wifi quits working at random with no explanation. Using a wired connection is fine though.
Activating the roku requires giving a credit card "for my convenience" - wrong.
Hint: complain to online support and they'll activate without a card.

My Roku The BEST!

I accidentally came across the Roku on the internet. Did some reading after had the wife pick one up. After the easy install could not put down the remote. This device is amazing all it can do. The only down fall they need to do is package it with a HDMI cable. The difference between the two cables the RCA cable and the HDMI cable is unbelievable. Roku please package with HDMI cable customers will be happier. I was much more impressed with the Roku after adding the HDMI cable sharpness and sound improved 100%.

I've had my Roku for about a month now, and I really like it. It was so quick & simple to set up & I enjoy how easy it is to use.

I'm just a common guy who knows how to USE many common household electronic gadgets, but not understand the computer specs or techy jargon most company reps use when you talk to them. So, I expected the usual: confusion on my part trying to set it up, resulting in frustration, a phone call or two, etc.
Not so with the Roku1. It wasn't quite as easy as advertised, but I did it myself!!!! No real frustration or phone calls needed. If I can do it, most of you "regular" folks can do it, too!!! I hope you take the risk and try it.
And the access to various channels and services ... wow! We now subscribe to Netflix and Hulu, and were able to cut our DirecTv service costs in half. We saved a net of $82 a month, are able to see everything we liked before Roku1, and added a huge amount of potential new viewing possibilities. WOW! again!!

You Tube: What about the early believers?

I have been a Roku customer since it first came out and love it. But I am disappointed I can't get You Tube on my device and have to become a new customer and buy a new unit! That sucks! I hope Roku go ahead and upgrade the software for those of us who believed in the beginning rather than have to buy all over again. What about us loyal customers who told others to come aboard?
