Great for old TV sets.

I bought this about months ago, and it definitely serves it's purpose. I want to get away from paying for cable service and didn't see where a dish type service would save me much money, as I am on a senior's income which is not much money. I already had Netfix and Hulu for my computer, but now I can use these services on my old television set without having my computer in my livingroom. I added an antenna and digital converter for local channels which works very well. I'm happy. There are some channels is miss, but they are not important considering the savings. Also there are many more service available through ROKU to be had, some free and others have a fee, so you have many choices to pick from.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Before I knew these devices existed we had purchased a smart tv. We then purchased the Roku 1 to make our old non-smart tv able to play netflix and such. Absolutely love it!! I actually prefer this device to the smart tv. It is very simple to use and the variety of channels it has is great. Have recommended to friends and would definitely purchase again.

perfect for crazy work schedule

I got this as an alternative to a regular cable package. Love the specialty channels. Only thing I would improve is the news options so I can have the option to watch a full hour straight instead of specific news story segments.

I would change the 30 sec backup button to a minute backup and I would add a button to restart the episode at beginning.

Very handy gadget for Netflix!

We are folks who have "cut the cable" and instead mostly view Netflix movies and TV shows. Instead of having to lug a computer into the family room and connect to the TV, we just turn on the TV and there is Roku waiting for us! Having a controller is great. We are very pleased. Only drawback is no keyboard, so typing is a bit tedious using the controller, but everything works.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Constant RETRIEVING DATA!

I have not been satisfied with the ROKU 1 since I got it as a gift last year at Xmas.
While my internet shows strong signals, the streaming for Netflix is a constant frustration as it stalls repeatedly as I am trying to watch a movie or series. I have to go through the process of unplugging the ROKU, Modem and router…then wait 10 minutes and reboot all. This happens frequently when the weather is stormy. I also have a BLUE RAY disc player and NEVER have a problem with streaming. I would NOT recommend ROKU . While they have a great selection of content, if it is unusable, what is the point in using this technology?
